I found a rolling chasis from a 99 tacoma that was rolled with recent waggy D44 SAS, with lockrites ft and rr. 44044s, 63 chevys, high steer, steering box, drive shafts, etc. think has 4.88s. with brand new 36 inch swamper radials and AR 509 wheels. The guy at the salvage yard wants $3,000 for the whole show or $1200 for the front axle including springs and steering, $800 for tires and wheels.

A couple of questions:

a) is this a good deal at all? seems to be in the ball park, but not sure.

b) what is the better deal? rolling or parts (don't really need the rear, but would take it since has gears and locker)

c) would it be easier to chop this stuff off and start on another truck or buy cab, motor, etc and build the rolling chasis up? this would be an offroad only rig, no bed, etc.

thanks

Not sure what rolling chasis entales, is the engine and trans/transfer case still there) but sounds like the start of a pretty damn cheep buggy. tube it out and wheel the hell out of it. I wish I could just build off of recked taco for 3000 as long as the before mentioned where there.

Try to offer him less but if he won't budge, I think you should take it. If you add up the cost of all those parts plus installation, it is a pretty good deal. Tell him you want everything but the frame and offer him less, unless you are planning to build the whole thing into a buggy. Assuming none of those things were damaged of course!

this is the parts list i got from the guy that built and rolled the truck. i love the idea of buying the axle set up, just don't want to pay too much, and not sure if it would make more sense to take the rest of it.

Where's it located just out of curiosity :) Probably not on the east coast.

is there any parts that others would be interested in off this thing? at this point i really only need the front axle. i will be at the takeover in hot springs and would be happy to deliver.

any other input on price? what should i pay for the front axle set up?

If you could afford the whole deal, really consider it. Not only do you have basically everything you need for a conversion, you could also come out with spare parts.

but I would take the whole thing and tube it as it has been mentioned before. That way you have a daily driver and one hell of a trail beast you could pound until submission! and then still be able to drive to work the next day

It's a pretty good price for everything

If the frame is in good condition, I'd go for it..... Hell, you could always tube it and slap whatever drivetrain in there you wanted. Of course, you'd still have some work to do on it, its definitely worth it, from what you've described....

get it, ud prob spend the same amount SAC'n your truck, but why not have one for a daily driver and one for trails

Hey where is the truck located? I knew a guy who had a truck that sounds exactly like that in Fayetville that rolled it. If so what yard is it at? I'd really like to pick some pieces off it.

Yeah he said 1500 now for the axle assembly in the front only so i asked if he'd take 1200 cash and he said 1250 plus tax maybe...... Can you still hook me up w/kevin's email address so i can ask him if the knuckles were rotated and some more stuff on it. He also said he'd sell me the rolling chassis minus tires/wheels for 2,000 but i don't need the frame or rear axle etc. Lots to think about!
