Make sure you check your fluids regularly. I noticed that I was losing power steering fluid. I kept an eye on it and the resovoir was going down. It never got below 3mm under the cold mark when cold. I added some atf fluid that it calls for and it still dropped. I took it in yesterday and today or tommorow, depending when they get it, a new steering rack is being installed. Apparently the seals were bad. So weather you do you own maintenance or not make sure you check everything on a regular basis.

I check all of my fluids every time I fill up the gas tank, before I wheel it, and after I wheel it. Keeping the engine well lubricated with oil, and properly cooled is essential for preventing problems down the line.
Yeah, Toyota is known for quality, and most people do not check as often as I do, but the extra couple of minutes is minutes well spent.
I also change my oil and filter every 2500 miles. The Toyota recommended oil/filter change is 5000.... I have ~28,000 miles on the truck. At 23,000 miles I noticed that the oil looked really dark from the change at 20,000 miles, so I started to change every 2,500 miles. (I had wheeled at Barnwell mountain durning that time in especially dusty conditions, my air filter was red with dust.)
I think the engine should have an hour meter on it, not just a odometer. An hour meter would properly log the hours on the motor... If you wheel in low range for hours on end take this into account when scheduling your oil changes.
