Wassup everyone, about two weeks ago I went down to Makena to drive out to the light house for fun, and there was a gate that said Private Property at the beginning of the road. The reason for this is to keep out un wanted people bringing their vehicles such as the homeless, people that party and leave their trash all over the place, and yes the tourist. As I was there I was able to talk to a park ranger (Really cool guy) and he said they are trying to keep the area clear of unwanted vehicles only letting the people who USE LAND AND REASOURCES (like for fishing, diving, surfing) to have access. I am not sure but when but they are going to put a pad lock on the gate, but the combination can be issued by the park rangers themselves or I think the DLNR office. The code will be changed every so often (I think its every two months). I hope this will work out because I wouldn't want to see people living in there, people causing fires, or having people leave abandon vehicles in there (yes I had to pull out a 2WD Ford Ranger that looked like it was stolen because of the broken locks and ignition and stuck next to the rising tide. Get this they tried to use a extension cord for rope wrapped around a rock and a come-a-long to pull the ass out and failed)
All I wanted to do is let you know if you’re headed out that way to expect this.
Shoot Den.

They should do this "padlock" thing in more places. to keep the hoales out, and the locals in. I've seen this place before its cherry. I'm not activist, but like to fish and dive. Its a good thing DLNR is looking to preserve it by keeping it safe. thanks for the post.

i went down there to surf and saw the gate with the padlock. I think that it is a good idea and it will help keep unwanted people out.
