This really goes to show you what kind of people are working at the Toyota dealerships. My Runner needed the front alined so I called Toyota and there happens to be a recall on IFS 1st/2nd gen Runners and pre Taco pickups for a tie rod replacment and by doing so they would have to realine the steering. So I made a appointment for 0900 this past Fri. to have this recall done on my Runner. Toyota had my Runner all day Fri and I called them that afternoon to see if it was done and they tell me that in order for them to do the recall I'd need to replace my idler arm and tie rod ends. That didn't bother me cause I knew they were worn already. Then they go on telling me that my engine was knocking really bad and my clutch wasn't working, in fact they say that the clutch was so bad the tech. had trouble driving it into the shop. I was WTF are you guys talking about? This really upset me and I told them that I'd be there to get my Runner ASAP. When I get there I get my "service advisor" and tell him that I wanted to hear this "knock" that my engine was making cause there wasn't a knock when I droped it off. We walk across the lot the whole the "service ass-visor" is tell about them test driving my Runner and in nicer words he was just saying that my Runner a POS and AFU. We get to my Runner and I start it up and the "service ass-visor" makes this "see I told you so" face but I was WTF are you talking about. Drew was there and didn't hear the "knock" but the service ass-visor" said there was a knock. So I told the guy what ever and asked what was wrong with my clutch as I moved the Runner forwards and backwards without a problem. This is where we could really tell that the "service ass-visor" was full of shat. He looks at some papers he had and says that my "slav cyl" yes I did spell it slav and not slave cyl. He says that the "slav cyl" was leaking inside but the clutch works fine for me (it'll slip when it gets wet). By this time I'd had enough of his BS and told that he was full of shat and left.
So I guess my hearing is going out cause I've yet to hear this knock in my engine. I was kind of hoping it was knocking so I'd have to a engine swap to something better then the 3.slow.
where did you go to? what deler shit

Sucks steve. Most places are like that though. they try to find a few things out of warranty for you to pay for.

Reminds me of the time I had to steal my tacoma back from the dealership. I took it in for a inner tie rod on the rack. Told the guy what was wrong when I took it in, they spent 6 hours diagnosing it, then finally fixed it. I called them told them I was coming to get it at a certian time and they had no problem. It turned out when I got there they closed 30 minutes earlier than the previous time I had been there. So I went to the show room floor and asked if I could get my truck. They said I would have to wait untill the next day. So I went back into the service area, grapped my keys off the board where they were hanging, opened the garage door, and drove off with the truck. The whole time a sales manager, is standing their threatning me and saying he was going to call the police. Needless to say I have never been back there.
Dealerships suck. Did they fix the service bulletin work?

No, they said they can't fix the recall because of the worn idler arm and tie rod ends.

Bullshit. They fixed mine with an idler arm and tie rod that exploded a week later. Haha
Err well the tie rod snapped in half and the idler arm bushings had dissapeared.

If you have the time and want to keep it up with that dealershisp you always repair those couple of parts and take it back. Let them know you put new ones on and see what they say.

I don't want to spend alot of money on the Runner's IFS because it should gone sometime within the next two months.

Why should I go to Ricky for a recall?
I know my engine and clutch are fine.

To see if he has any insight on the guy... just wondering... If i'm taking my truck somewhere that I am familiar with a person that works there I would stop by and at least say hello and check things out. He might tell you the guy is a QUACK and get you someone that would actually do the work right.

But I knew my idler arm was worn and my tie rod ends aren't the great looking either. So besides for the knocking engine and clutch they were telling the truth.
Ricky has no control over the Service Advissors. As for asking for him, I will if there ever something wrong with my Runner that I'm not sure of. I've called him a few times about my starter problems but wasn't much help. 90% of all dealer work is remove and replace.
