I have not been wheeling since the january campout!!! I need to go! My brother-in-law is coming to visit from the 6th to the 13th and I would really like to take him on a good day run. (For me too!) Anyways, who wants to go? I am down with anything. Eureka and North ONF, South ONF, B-pit whatever. 8th or 9th will be the day. I will confirm the day when others reply and when I get my schedule for that week. Later.

I'd be up for a day trip to B pit or south ONF. The only thing is I'm going pushing the SAS of my Runner really soon now that the F350 is sold.

Cool, Iggy is going to pay our gas for all the wheeling trips for now on. Sweet. .

I'm just goin going to get out the Marines and start working for Iggy at Sonic.

I'd really like to go wheeling but I hope my Runner will be cut up and getting SAS'd around that time. I'm going to be bumming rides to and from work from Drew during that time too. LOL

Ok guys, I should have the definate day by next monday at the latest. I will post up as soon as I know. Looks like it will be a fun group! Ryan is right about the gas, we should proabably just do Eureka and b-pits. They are pretty close together arent they? Besides I have never been to b-pit and would like to check it out. Later.

From Lake Mary you are looking at about 1.5 to 2 hours to Eureka, which is located at the north end of the Forest. Look at mapquest.com, It is actually just outside or in the town of Eureka at the north end of the woods.

Ok I am off that weekend so I am gonna go ahead and say saturday the 8th if everyone is cool with that. I am going to plan to leave JAX no later than 8am. I guess we could go to Eureka pit first. Plan on being there between 9-10am and we will take from there for the rest of the day and wheel wherever we all want to. Any other ideas just let me know. How does all that sound?

Thanks for the info guys. 1.5-2 hours isn't bad at all. I think the 8th would work out great for me. Would you all mind if I maybe brought one or two other H3s along? Not sure if they would even be able to make it that day but just in case. What type of wheeling will be getting into there?

Thats fine. We will be doing mostly sandy, brush filled, trails. If you have wheeled one trail in ONF then you have mostly done them all. Eureka pit is coming along nicely with some good technical and tight trails leading all aroung the pit. B-pit I am not too sure about because I have never been there but I think it is close to the same. The only thing I can think to warn you about with your nice H3's is there is always potential for pinstriping. Its pretty much gauranteed. Other than that its mostly pretty mellow. If you have taken your rig to tellico then you will have nothing to worry about. :D

Thanks for the info. Not a fan of pinstriping but I have shields for the doors :)

May look funny but I have learn from other's years of experience and used the shields along with painters tape to protect it in Tellico. So far, haven't found a scratch on it but they will come eventually :(

91toyota4x4
03-22-2006, 07:30 PM
It will be hard to not get pinstriping if you go wheeling in the ONF. Most of the interesting trails have at least some parts that are really tight and those palmettos and trees aren't very forgiving when it comes to that. So expect some at least, unless you cover every inch of paint with that plstic stuff.

I've never been to Tellico but I have been to others trails close to it and seen pictures and the trails there are much wider than in the forest.

Ryan, I do not know where B-pit is. If that place is good enough to make a good day run then we could just go there...Depending on what everyone else wants. If we could make that the case then we could meet you somewhere in G-ville or wherever is closest by 9:30 or 10am.

91toyota4x4
03-30-2006, 06:55 AM
Yeah I have never ventured too far into that pit but it is good enough for a day run. If we get bored there we can always go to S. Ga too or I know some other pits nearby we could explore (depending on the size of the group).

curiousgeorge
03-30-2006, 07:17 AM
Hey If it is decided not to meet at the Eureka pit is it possible to setup a meeting somewhere close to B-pit. It is a long drive to Gainesville, to turn around and drive south again for the guys that will be coming from Orlando area, unless I am the only one, in which case, just let me know where to go. Also, I am not sure where B-pit is either so if it is close to gainesville than nevermind my suggestion.

bosco
03-30-2006, 08:01 AM
Well then if its ok with everyone who is attending, which doesnt seem like much, we can just plan to meet up with ryan in G-ville between 9:30-10am saturday morning. If there are any objections just let me know.

Ryan. Where do you want to meet at?

Also: Everyone who is going please post up a confirmation and where you are coming from so we can work out meeting points and times. Thanks!

How about this...

For the people comming from the north: We meet up at the south end of Gainesville around 8 or 9am, then run down to Ocala as a group. On the way down we can pass by A Pit to check on it's status. Then go to meet everyone that is comming from the south at the gas station.

For people comming from the south: We can meet up at exit 358 (SR 326) in Ocala. There is a big gas station, I think a Pilot, turn right on SR 326 and it is on the south side of the road first thing, we can all hook up there.

Then we can all gas up and head to B Pit as a group. If A pit is open we can also go there if anyone wants to give it a whirl. B Pit was not posted as of a few weeks ago so as far as I know it is fair game. If I go down there this weekend I will swing by to make sure.

Also. Does anyone that is planning on going have a winch? That would be nice. If not we can call Brian and have him come pull us out :D It looks like we should have a group of 4 or 5 at least so we should be OK.

How does that plan sound? If anyone needs directions to the meeting place in the form of a map I can probably do that too.

Hey Ryan, That all sounds pretty good to me but I will tell you I stopped by A-pit last month when I was on my way back from Tampa just to make sure it really was closed and sure enough as soon as you head back from the road a hundred feet or so there were signs posted all over...:(

I was thinking we could meet up with the Jax guys at the BP/Kangaroo on the corner of Williston/Waldo Rd and 441 then head south from there. Then we can take 25A past A Pit and meet up with the other guys. I want to meet anyone comming from the south near the interstate because there isn't really an "easy" place to meet them on 441 near the pit.

Bryan there is a pretty good possibility that the signs at A pit might have "dissapeared" by now. The locals might have worked thier magic :D

Ryan, I got some steel from Roger's Welding on Main street and it was pretty cheap. They also seemed to have a good selection of stuff. Give them a call, I dont have the number but it's in the phone book.

03-31-2006, 05:07 PM
Well.... Today I went out to Moonscape with some friends and I broke something up front. Was going up a bumpy climb and started bouncing at the top and BLAMMO! Something popped. I think it is something to do with the drivers side CV or hub because when the wheel spins and the hub is locked the CV doesn't move. I think I should have it fixed by next weekend though...

If not I will ride along!

OOOOOOO I also heard from a little birdy people are starting to go back into everyone's favorite hole in the ground so we will see about that...

Clemsontoy
03-31-2006, 07:11 PM
Thats what it soiunds like, when you get to bouncing and have CVs youd better back off, because thats the easiest way to break them, I broke 1 the same way. If you need 1 I have 2 back in SC that I can pull when I go back next weekend.

91toyota4x4
03-31-2006, 08:00 PM
Well this is the CV I replaced a few months ago, the c-clip was a little jacked up (ok i bent the crap out of it and then attemped to bend it back semi round  ) so i think it might have come off and let the cv back its way out of the hub. That would make it a nice easy fix!!

Just get a reese style hitch from the junk yard. Most of the class 3 hitchs use a 2.5 x 2.5 x .25 cross bar you should be able to get one for cheap. Then just a bit of work to harvest what you need ....

Btw you only need about 18" of 2.5" and 18" of 2" I run dual cases and the axle forward 3"+ and I have about 3" of compression left in the shaft.

91toyota4x4
04-01-2006, 11:58 AM

pretty hard. you need to sawzall all the ifs components off and fab a whole lotta crap on the frame, hang the axle, setup steering, shocks, and put the thrid in and slide in the axle/birf combo and put it back together. pretty expensive too. :flipoff1:

Changing CVs is a PITA. I find the easiest way is to unbolt the upper ball joint so you have more room to work with. BTW, I'd rather change out a broken birf than a CV!! It's alot messier but alot more strait forward!
