Can you run 15W-40 "diesel" oil in a gas motor? Other than keeping your engine squeaky clean can it hurt anything?

I dont know for sure but "squeaky clean" is not necessarily a good thing...I think.

Yes, You can run 15w40 in your truck. I don't think that the extra detergents will do any harm.
In the designation 15w40 the 15 is the weight or "thickness" of the oil while the 40 is the film thickness. So generally you want to use the highest first number with the lowest second number.

At work we use the same oil in the Diesel engines that we do for the gas engines and they all same to run fine. So I'm going to say yes.
