IF Colorado is selected to host the 2007 National TTORA Takeover, we'lll need to be ready with a selection of extreme trails for the hardcore rock rigs to play on. And since ya'll know how many extreme trails I've driven (that would be "zero" "zip" "nada"), CoTTORA members who have get an opportunity to step up and show the folks from the rest of the country what "carnage" really means when applied to Colorado trails.

So as ya'll plan your trail runs this summer, keep that in mind for 2007 and put together a list of those trails and needed information for equipment, time to run, obstacles, pictures, etc.

Cool?

Werd up. Very cool. I hope to hit indy, chinaman and iron chest st the end of this summer though I highly doubt that qualifies me as a trail lead. LOL Though I would say my trail leading etiquette is awesome (Just ask Brian from New Mexico!)

I would personally be ok with being a lead on TinCup.

Trail lead skills/ideas that I have been collecting...

Lead should post somewhere the trail head location (and GPS Coordinates) , planned CB channel and a phone number (if there will be reception).
Have waiver and pens for each person on the trail to sign. (If it is a formal TTORA run).
Assign a proper waist and tail gunner who must have a CB.
Pre run the trail at least 2x preferably with a GPS to keep wrong turns at a minimum.
Pre run the trail with a vehicle that fits your minimum requirements. (Meaning if you are going to allow trucks with only 1 locker and IFS, then pre run that trail in the same kind of truck).
As lead do not take the group up something that your weakest driver/truck cannot handle. Be clear about which obstacles are optional and which are not. Have a good understanding of what your hardest obstacle is and have a similar popular obstacle to compare it to in order to explain the trail difficulty to those who have not run it. (Explain this in your morning de-breif)
Bring a spare spill kit, food & water, and toilet items for those who likely have forgotten. Spare tow straps, d rings and handheld cb's are nice too. (Recovery equipment).
Ensure that somone in your group has more advanced recovery equipment. (High lift accesory kit, shovel, pry bar, chains and straps, and winch and winch recovery kit if possible)
Get an idea from the group before you head out what the planned trail time will be, what time you plan to stop for lunch.
Remind everyone of trail etiquette. (No littering, keep the person behind you in sight).

I don't adhear to all this on "runs with my friends" but I do when it is an official or large event. I only learned all of this from 5 years of putting on a 200 rig event in Moab every May - the Moab Zu Zoo...

Thoughts? Additions?

I think it would be really cool if you could organize a "ridealong" program to give people the opportunity to ride in built rigs/buggies on advanced trails. Kind of set up a list for advanced drivers to put their name on a list with how many riders they could take and fill it with people interested in riding in advanced rigs. The beginners would return the favor by offering seats in their rigs for guests of the advanced drivers (or the advanced drivers themselves).

If actually doing a trail would be considered dangerous, having an open signup while people are in the "playgrounds" would eliminate the awkwardness of having to go up to a stranger and ask for a ride.

I think this would be a great opportunity for people to learn more about our sport and see what can be done with some of these vehicles!

i'd like to offer up any services i could be able to help out with. extreme trails...i don't think so...but the moderate to difficult trails around the springs or further south. i found a nice shop down south off of 115 right at the entrance of independence trail. the folks that work there are great guys and would step up to help us out for a 2007 CO takeover. so i'd like to add independence trail as an option. not sure of the difficulty, but i could definately make things happen with this. just an option

so are we attacking the whole state or do we have an idea of where this all would take place. Its important to have a wide variety of trails within a short distance of each other. And not like I am any expert on where the trails are, but what happend to Buena Vista area, not like I even know where that is. But, just curious. I've heard Holy Cross is pretty tough, but I am thinking that we will have some hard core guys come down from places, shouldn't we have more than 2 difficult trails in the area. Plus difficult, moderate and easy ratings are vague. What is the trail rated 1-10. I've done trails rated difficult with my 4Runner (3" open/open)... but then again I've ridden trails rated difficult in Dan's truck (SASed, etc) where he'll be challenged and I wouldn't be able to make it 5 feet. I am just curious. I think it would be nice if we win the bid, I just know that the takeover last year was on the Rubicon and I was told it was pretty awesome! The NorCal guys have a tight group and are pretty experienced on the trails. Oh yeah, and who do we have so far as trail leads? Can Mols pull some of the old school CoTTORA members back into active status for a week. The last thing we want is a bunch of in-experienced wheelers leading the trails (not meant to be an insult at anyone, so just shut up now)... I just want a few more specifics... I would totally show up if we had an event like that just to run a few trails and see some yotas, I am excited and want to know more. :D

Nic - BV has 2 very extreme trails - Iron Chest and Carnage and Chinaman isn't far off. Holy cross is an ideal addition due to the location - about 1.5 hours from BV Max. I am not worried about the lack of trails. I am more worried about the lack of good trail leaders. But that should work itself out over this summer.

Sounds good... I just know most of our Colorado family is more moderate than extreme, there are the few of us out there who are extreme or crazy or both. But I want to make sure there is something for everyone. I know what my brothers and I can do with our trucks, I know what stock guys are capable of (unless your that crazy guy we met who did Prichett in his stock 02 Taco) and I know what Dan likes to do... so taking this all into account, I was just curious if the area would include a variety of trails for all levels! I am excited about possibly having the takeover here, maybe I can get my brothers Tacos out of hiding... LMAO :D

yea no prob on that,i've ran that trail a few times,no pre runs needed, that would be a great camp trip for the ttora, but the bv stuff i'd check out anytime once the snow melts, sounds like a combo trip, raft the ark ,go pre run some sick trails, get a room and soak at cotton wood hot springs all night,oh the days of summer ahead!!
