Huggy Bear, whats the word on the streets?
Is the new FJ a worthy vehicle or POS?
My wife hates the Mercedes ML and refuses to drive it. So with that being said we took a quick look at the 07 FJ today but didn't test drive the vehicle. We both like the looks but know nothing about this vehicle. The dealer was a tool and didnt know jack shit. :( (pretty piss poor IMO) We like the fact its made by Toyota. Best part is the cost is 1/2 of what I expected to pay...
I would sure like to hear more about this vehicle. Good or bad right or wrong can someone point me in the right direction. Thanks, John

The dealers I have dealt with so far (7 different dealerships, from SF to Sacramento) dont have much info in their heads yet. I have seen the Blue, the Black, and the Yellow in person. Love the blue, yellow is very yellow. I want the Silver, I think....i need to see it though.
Apparently Toyota is making what THEY think will sell. They are coming into the dealerships with losta crap (to ME) on them. Running boards....Trailer hitches, parking distance control.....etc. They charge extra for that crap, and I dont want it. From what I heard today, I MIGHT be able to order one bare-bones with convienience package and upgrade package #2, BUT TOYOTA MIGHT NOT MAKE IT. They have the option in Japan to say "we wont make that"....even if its what I want as a consumer. That IMO sucks ass. I either take what comes in, or wait it out. Should I custom order it, it might not get built without all the blingy crap on it.
The salespeople dont know much about it either...For example...it comes stock with fugly black wheels (17"). Upgrade package 1 and 2 replace those wheels with 17" alloys. You can also get TRD 16" alloys as an option (also comes with BFG AT's). Two dealers I asked this about said "they come with it when you get the package"...and I said..."no, its EXTRA"....and its NOT cheap extra either....$1800 bucks. For $1800, I want the ORIGINAL wheels and tires that come with the option package; AND the new TRD wheels.
The things I dont like about it....
Rear windows dont open. I could not imagine being stuck in the back seat and not being able to roll down the window.
There is a decent blind spot on both sides, in the back. I think its not bad, cause I am used to using the side mirrors anyway. The side mirrors are HUGE, and you can see a lot with them. My BMW had a worse blind spot though, and thats a much smaller car.
Things I did like about it...
110v plug in the back, with either upgrade package.
Welded nuts in the frame for sliders! Thats awesome, IMO...makes bolt on sliders a really easy add-on.
Steering wheel controls for the radio.
4 'oh shit' handles, two on the pillars, and two above the doors. Lotsa places to grab onto.
Subwoofer/sound systems sounds above average to me. Looks really clean, and sounds good too. Has an aux input for an IPod or similar.

My wife and I drove one Friday night...one of her favorite features was the amount of "oh shit" handles, oh and she like the 3 gauges on the dash as well.
