The Icon's are not restored Land Cruisers. They are totally custom built from the ground, up. They are modeled after the old FJ-40's but they are brand new - modern vehicles. That should help explain the $88,000 price tag, and why they are called Icon, and not Land Cruiser.
They are hand build order by order. With no economy of scale I can see why they cost that much. They do use existing components for the drive train but the frames and sheet metal have to be done in very low volumes and final assembly looks to be one at a time by team.
i saw one of those icons down in la the last week and i must say those things are nice. if i only had all the cash in the world to spend on one i would buy one in a hearbeat. they did a real nice job with it
i doubt they will ever actually hit production, or be legal for sale in the us.... land rover had some company copy the d90 a few years ago... needless to say, the website for them is still up, but you cant actually find them, anywhere.....
doubt they will actually hit production? you can order one if you have the money and they will build it the way you want it. its not like they are going to mass produce a bunch n then hope to sell them for that kinda money.
yes its street legal. and most people cant build a truck from the frame up so why not have somebody do it for you? these things are bad ass. if money wasnt an option why not get one?
Yes, you could, but as was mentioned above, this is not an old FJ, this is a brand new FJ look alike, new frame, modern conveniences, modern engines, etc, etc.
Although it does seem poor that for that price you don't get a full cage.
I think that I would try to do my own restore, before dropping 90k
