Do you REALLY intend to wheel a truck that new and that nice on trails that REQUIRE SAS?

Or would the money be better spent on building a beater or a buggy to do those trails?

i'm just throwing around ideas right now. i like having capable rigs no matter what condition they're in. i was just thinking it might be cheaper and better to do the sas before i lift it. but i'm just throwin' around ideas.

i kinda gotta agree with troy on this one. if you SAS your truck you pretty much take away any highway capability of it.... so you would want to really have another car to be your daily driver, as well as probably your tow rig. it depends on how much you can do yourself. ive seen them done for as little as 3000 with alot of parts hunting up to 10000 to have someone do it. for that kind of money you could pick up a beater truck and have it be pretty capable offroad and not have to worry about the fact that it looks all nice right now.

Let's not delude ourselves...our IFS trucks are incredibly capable! I think you're getting carried away too early in the game.

in MPO if i had to start all over i wouldn't have wasted all my money in my IFS lift/ locker and would have gone straight to SA. depending on how you wheel and how you build it it can be quite streetable..... dick foster has coil-overs on his rig with a sway bar and that thing drives like a sports car and still drives it from Cali to wheel in moab and then drives it back..or ask blingtaco he had his rig built in moab and drove to and from moab i don't know how many times with out any problems. (on-road....i know someone would call me on that)

Damn Boys... time to put your dicks away!

*geeze*

Ya know you can go so many ways with this conversation. It all comes back to $$$. How much do you have now (for an SAS) and how much do you have for upkeep.

IFS are incerdibly capable. Lets not all forget Darrick one of the greatest IFS wheelers of ALL times, who rarely broke CV's and could spank almost any SAS rig on Pritchette.

So RIGHT THERE - if you are a good driver.. IFS can get you places.

But don't discount SAS. It is nice to have. With that said... If I could do it again I would have spent more time with an IFS rig *learning* how to wheel before I got SAS. But now that I am into it, I wouldn't trade SAS for anything.

It is amazing how we as wheelers can get such an "I know more than anyone else attitude." Collectively we all know a lot. Lets stick to our collective knowledge eh?

wow.

all im gonna say is if youve never wheeled before, wheel a lifted IFS rig before doing a SAS, wheeling an ifs rig makes you learn so much more about the "art" of wheeling. if youve run ifs rigs before and you got some bucks shit ya go for the SAS, do it right the first time though and just go 60's, lol

I know how you feel.

I have lurked around in the SAS threads checking it out. It seems that there is a wide range in cost estimates; depending on how much work you can do yourself. It seems to me to be a monstrous project, but one that is well worth it, in time.

I have owned my stock truck for 5 years, and have wheeled it a lot. Sure I can’t walk up and over some of the big boulders, but I can usually find away around them, and have a blast doing it. Just recently have I started to "need" (more like want) larger tires and more clearance. So I figure I'll work my way up the latter, starting small and one day, in my dreams perhaps, I'll have it sas'd with a V8. But until then I'll keep on wheel’n in the free world!

The choice is ultimately going to be yours, and if you have the means and a DD, I say go for it!

Good luck with the research, keep us in the loop.

No I don't.... no matter how much research a person has done it doesn't add up to first hand experience.

i do how ever 2nd want you said with the learning how to wheel on an ifs set up first or if you do SA your rig drive with the guys who are starting out ifs and learn with them.....your learning curve might be a little steeper but at least you'll be done with your swap

and molly darrick was nuts you have to add that in ...but a damn good driver

i'm just say thats all he has is research...... i am just giving a first hand experience which is also needed in this case and :2cents: he might not have don't enough reseach to say that you can't be streetable and be SA.... i'm just saying i started out as a stock ifs rig and slowly built my rig starting from a 3in ome lift and then added a body lift...then sliders....then 35's......bla bla bla.....i was just telling the guy from a first hand experience that i whould have gone sraight to SA if i had the chance :xsmokin1:

streetable sas to rich means he can still drive his truck at 85 and not have any issues, like his ifs setup is right now. to someone else streetable may mean just gettin to the trail and back and what they feel is a comfortable speed. sure a SAS rig is streetable but sure feels scary as hell at higher speeds, hell my 84 with as much lift as i am running feels scary at 60 (when im goin downhill with a tailwind, lol), and thats what he is worried about, hence why he will never SAS his taco, now am i saying dont do a SAS....NO not at all. i just didnt agree with your "little gay smiley" post thats all. seriously researching this is all we can do, hearing first hand experience from one is great but its still research and i think your missing that point

truth is it depends on your skills conections and what style suspension you go with. if you have good conections and can fab it can be done for reasonably cheap. on a buddys rig we made the hangers used a set of springs we had around and total after all was said and done had 200 for the axle and like 200 into the other parts so its all on a personal level you can spend a ton or spend a little depends on where you are and what ya got. and that truck still foes awesome hasn't broken and alignment is correct.

there is a simple solution to this dilemma and it is answered in the form of questions?

...How much body damage do you want?
...and how much do you want to spent to get it?
last of all!
...which do you prefer continually replacing? CV's ,axle shafts or axle housings?
