Ok, it's for real this time. I now either have or have ordered every piece I need with the exception of a clutch cancel switch(if anyone has one or knows how to bypass this let me know) I will be starting friday May 12th and working until it's finished, hopefully by sunday. I live in the woodlands just north of houston.

You know I'm not using the factory one anyway. That MAF sensor is the same for camry, lexus, mr2 .......................it's a pretty long list. I went junk yard shopping tues and they wanted 100 for one out of an avalon that had been under water for what looked like days. I had to literally dig the mud out from the intake to see if it was even the same. It was but I'm not paying that much for that

I'll be at it all day tomorrow. Your help would be greatly appreciated as always. I didn't do a whole lot today being it was mothers day and that it was raining. I did, however, plumb the hydraulics for the clutch. I just need to adjust it and bleed it.I will probably start around 9AM. Feel free to drop by any time.

Yeah, I just shaped up some 2x2 angle and seems to hold up fine. My skid and t-case x-member shipped out yesterday so That will quickly be replaced.
Right now I'm contending with the carrier bearing hanger. The driveshaft seems to be just a little too short and the holes don't quite line up. Glad I have a welder and metal! :saw: :welder:

SHE RUNS!!!!!!!! Thanks tcmaboy for the schematic. That sure enough worked. Now I have a few more quirks to work out.
1.) the idle seems a little high but I can't tell b/c my tach doesn't seem to work at the moment. I haven't plugged in all the vacuum lines yet so that may solve the prob.

2.)there is a lot of white smoke coming out of the exhaust. This drivetrain came out of a 4runner that flipped and was upside down for a little while. Could that have something to do with it? It's definately not the smell of coolant coming out of the exhaust but more like oil perhaps.

Please offer any ideas or suggestions. I really want to drive this thing!

sometimes when a truck rolls and sits upside down for a bit oil will make its way past the cylinder rings and go above the piston mix with the gas/air and poof white smoke

i misread it.. did it continue to smoke or did it smoke for a little bit?

Interex
05-17-2006, 02:31 PM
Any vac leaks will most certainly cause a high idle. Get those fixed and you'll be golden.

As Mitch said, if it was upside down for a while the oil probably went past the piston rings. The smoke should go away. If it doesn't I would check compression in each cylinder as you may have a blown headgasket or piston ring(s).

swank501
05-17-2006, 02:44 PM
I don't want to hear anything about a blown head gasket. Usually you will smell coolant in the exhaust when that happens but I don't know if that is always applicable in every situation. This may sound like a dumb ? but how do you check compression? I would asume one would need a compression tester of some sort

yeah u buy a cheap little compression tester remove one spark plug at a time. put tester in spark plug spot hold it and have someone bump the ignition it will then give u a compression reading

Interex
05-17-2006, 03:52 PM
Get the motor warmed up to operating temp. Pull the EFI and/or ECU fuse. Pull out one spark plug at a time and screw in the compression tester. Open the throttle wide open. Crank the engine over about 5-6 times. Write down the reading and continue to the next.

Everything went fine last night driving around. Today I went to New Caney for traffic court and had a few problems. The truck seemed a little week starting this morning, but I went ahead on my trip. About the time I made it to the Interstate, my radio died. When I made it to Hwy 59 My truck started stuttering as I was accelerating onto the highway. I pulled over to get some gas, turns out it was almost empty.....good I thought. Went to start it back up and it was completely dead. Got jumped and went to the court house. EVerytime I tried to accelerate hard the truck would stutter and hesitate and all my instrumentation seemed really dim. I left it running at court (5min in&out) and went straight home. At first it seemed like it would make it home as long as I took it easy on the gas but my top speed kept coming down down down until it would barely move under its own power.I tried to put on my flashers, but the truck would stumble everytime it blinked. I had to get it towed to my house. I pulled the alternator and had it tested.....it was perfect. I'm pretty sure the battery isn't charging. Any suggestions?

For some reason it keeps blowing the GAUGE fuse under the dash. The second I turn the key it blows. I know this is tied into the alternator somehow so i wonder if this could be the reason why this thing aint charging. The alt is fine, but the batt won't charge

Talk about back from the dead!!!!!!!! I had someone PM me about the 20" helos I had on my truck 2 years ago to see if they were still for sale.

I'm really curious where the 2.7 landed. BTW Jose, turns out the body harness from my truck would plug directly into the computer, but none of the wires matched except for a few. Basically I sat in my truck for two days with two wiring schematics, a lap full of wires, a notebook with my wiring schematic, and a hollatta patience.
