Is anyone running a crawler in a regular cab, and if so did you have any problems? I'm thinking about going with the inchworm setup and I'm concerned that the rear driveline angle might be a bit steep and cause vibration. Has anyone had this problem, or am I just a newb worried for nothing.
Any comments or opinions would be apreciated. Thanks.

No problems here with that setup.

Cool thank you. Do you have any pics of your setup.

Brian - note he is SAS too. I would try to get opinion from someone regular cab AND IFS ... or maybe 4Runner ... I think Hytenor has the inchworm setup - is his a regular cab?

With the hardcore shizzy you wheel, how much breakage do you experience now? Think the IFS will hold up to the extra torque from the crawler?

(I've been thinking about doing on the 'runner ...)

Hey Troy, I thought Hytenor had a extracab, I'm pretty sure anyway. The only thing that I've broken (knock on wood) is A CV, but that was only when I forgot to turn off the front locker and was tuned too sharp. :banghead: I've read the threads about Hytenors inchworm setup and I know it's alot of torque for our Cv's but I'm going to do the swap very soon after (maybe before) so things should hold up for a couple of runs......Maybe..

You should dive the Runner down for Carnage in May... It's not that far

the only time I've had issues with my CVs is when fully turned and fully drooped out. other than that I've been able to crawl up stuff in lo lo lo :D
with no problems. If I have to really crank the wheel to get up something I either turn the locker off or take a different line. And, as long as I'm not drooped out on the turn side I haven't had any trouble. I can turn into a 3' rock, lock both lockers, put it in compound low and just idle up the rock. :D
it also makes it a breeze to ramp someone's 37, LOL

I spend the vast majority of my wheeling time just using the 4.7 box and the OE tcase in 4h or 2h. with the 4.7 box you are running twice the torque...both cases and it goes to nearly 5x. It is really just a matter of adjusting the way you drive on the trail.

and yes, an excab

So pretty much the same but with less throttle and clutch  ... Thanks for the input, did you get another skid plate/ crossmember yet or are you still running the one you made?

There are CV, double cardons, and high angle joints that can handle very steep angles. You just need to research and spend some $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ :2cents: :2cents: :2cents: :2cents: :2cents:

Clutch?? I hardly use it anymore, LOL Throw the thing in lo and just idle up a wall.

I have a prototype tcase xmember in there now but had to remove the poly bushings and am looking for some natural rubber ones. The polys are way too stiff for the drivetrain and wound up completely immobilizing the entire drivetrain. When I first tried to start the engine I thought it was going to fly appart  I was trying to take some of the movement out of the rear of the now longer drivetrain but not THAT much, LOL.

I still need to try and remove the OE tranny xmember an see how it goes but I think I'll still need different bushings.

as for skids I haven't changed what I have....full coverage just past the tcase and a fuel tank skid ;)

x2 on the too stiff FROR tcase xmember bushings if I have the bolts even 1 turn snug u can feel the engine vibes thruout the entire frame and in your seat.. like a damn rumble chair.. prolly because like u I still have the OE tranny xmember in place however mine has torn bushings.. but im slowly beating the OE xmember to death by rocks :D

how does your motor react when you start it up? Mine felt/sounded like it would fly appart and scared the hell out of me.

and, until just recently I had never heard of these bushings even being an issue.

man when i installed my xmember on back of tranny something has been whack since day 1 the passanger side sits 3/16" from the frame rail driver side is 1" or so.. so thats been a prob.. but if i tighten the bolts up that hold the poly bushings in place as if they were greasable shackle polys ( IE tighten a smidge just snug ) and crank up truck the entire truck shakes at startup and at idle its a rough feeling so i've lately just got them tight so the nut stays on ( 2 - 3 threads showing ) but it does nothing for the xmember as i can slide it side to side with a flat pry bar and minimal force with the tranny xmember in place.. I originally spoke to brian about how close it is to passanger frame rail he was as clueless to the prob as i was..

my prob.. If i leave it too loose the xmember knocks frame rail at startup/idle if i tighten it too much truck shakes like hell at startup / idle.. so its been a cat/mouse game of finding right tightening.. about to sell it for about half what i paid

with any luck I'll find some rubber replacements; stay tuned.
I've contacted a rubber part mfg and have a message in including some diagrams and spec drawings to see about some custom application...we'll see.

Sorry for the somewhat thread hijack :D

That does sound scary, let me know how that works out removing the original Xmember, and adding rubber bushings, and thanks again for the imput

Not hijacking, adding information which is what it's all about (as far as I'm concerned) every little bit helps, it does'nt matter to me if we're on the exact same subject or not. It'll all come together to help someone out...

Mine shakes at startup if it's flexed. I never thought about the x-member. Mine bolts straight to the frame on the driver side, no bushing.

a solid mount for the rear of your drivetrain?? damn, I'm surprised it hasn't fallen appart. That is bad news, dude.

I crawled under and looked. The transmission is bushing mounted to the x-member. I forgot about that part. The x-member is mounted to the frame just like the stock x-member is.

Was thinking about it, then found a deal on plane tix.

Probably will drive out for Moab in October though.

bad link but I found a pick showing your custom tranny xmember. do you have the fror one as well?
