in how deep of water have you gone thru in your taco?
snorkel and lift/bigger tirees at that time or no?
any damage?
here is mine with stock suspension, a home made snorkel, and 31" bfg m/ts
no damage, but without snorkel going thru similar stuff before had about 1" of water in the airbox, luckily airfilter stopped it

Other than a jeep at PAP a while back, I have never seen someone that put their truck into water that was 2 ft higher than the height of the roof. Post pics! :D
I went into a puddle that covered the headlights and sloshed over the hood, but that was the deepest part and was only about 3 ft wide (dropped into this in the middle), the rest of the puddle was only to about the bottom of the headlights (3" lift/ 31's), had the deep section been any wider I would have ended up sitting there with an engine full of water. As it was, I basically dropped in and bounced out the other side so the air box came up and out of the deep spot quickly, since I didn't have water in the airbox I can only assume I was in and out too fast for the engine compartment to fill...
Now I prefer to run without doors to keep me from being tempted, hahaha.

donahoes and 32's...went through a nasty mud/water hole that covered my buddies 35's by a couple inches. It washed up over the hood in a few spots but no damage. The air filter was a little muddy though when I swapped it out a few days later.

Only time I got deeper I almost flopped in the river... fortunately the guy in front wasn't taking pictures and hooked a winch to my slider. :D
When i was at a spot called Elk mountain in Ca, I went thorugh a stream and somehow with my 4runner with a 6 inch all pro lift and 35's. I ended up with my hood submereged and water up to the seats in my car. (i was on an angle) so my driver and passenger seats were submerged on the bottom portion and my rear seats were dry. My motor stalled and like a RETARD i tried to start it up and back out. After i got winched out, i pulled my spark plugs and about a quarter of a gallon of water shot out of the 4 cylinders and about 3 gallons out the exhaust. It started up fine and ran good after. 300 miles later at a stop light all 4 rods shot out the side of my block. That was the end to my 4runner but i still sold it for 4k!

there's a river nearby that whenever it rains hard it floods the gravel road that runs alongside the river and the deepest i ever got in my chevy was about halfway up my doors and water started coming up through the bottom....a downside to chevy's they don't wput waterseal rubber strips at the bottom of the door so water just seaps in easy....oh and that was a 4" on 33's

I dont know how it is in other states but in washington sometimes on the side of the roads there is Random gravel patches for big rigs and what not, well i was looking for a location at nite and i took the wrong street so i turned into the gravel pit and was going to turn around, the gravel pit had some pot wholes in it filled with water, i did not think it was going to be deep at all..there was also a few patches of mud and on the side was like a swamp, but you could tell that a big rig was parked there, there was tracks every where. So back to the story i pulled in went through the little pot wholes and when i was turned my wheel to full lock my front end dipped in and water coever my head lights..luckily i have cat like reflexes and i gassed it and went off to the side got out then fill into the swamp that was probably at least 3 ft deep , gassed it out of that back onto the road then with my luck i got pulled over by a cop who thought i was offroading...i explained to him what had happend and he just kinda laughed and said ok.By the way my truck at that time was lifted 4 inches and i was waiting for the 33s so it had bald 31s....and it wasnt in 4wheel drive..no pictures because i was the only one there...after it was all over i thought it was pretty cool.

Thats a good idea. A lot of hose, but a good idea. I might take a look at re-routing mine there. I assume there is not enough moisture in the steam to do any damage right? I was thinking about putting them into the bottom of the airbox or course, under the filter. Also, how did you get them in there? Did you just drill a hole and seal it up once in there? A picture would be nice here if you have one. Going to search now. Thanks

Steam? The blow-by has no water unless something went wrong. :)
IIRC, the fittings were some British NPT brass 90* male elbows with push-in like this:
http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I/yhst-28505188400710_1893_56780657
I used clear refrigerator icebox water lines.
The fittings I used to the airbox were plastic 90* male elbows 1.4" NPT with push-in like this:
http://static.zoovy.com/img/theh2oguru/-/fit_male_elbow53
The whole thing was cheap, easy and effective. I'll try to dig up a picture.

Valk, thanks for the pics. If you can find one of it going into the aribox, please post it. What I meant was moisture in steam. I guess that moisture is not enough to cause any harm. I found a link to another post about this with the websites to the parts you used. I just need a good way to get these in the airbox, cause I have no idea of how to make it sealed up. well i had crossed it the last before with my 33's and about 4in so of course thought i could cross it now with a "built" truck :suicide: and turns out it got a little washed out that summer. oops next time i'll walk out there and see first
This is the most recent excursion into deep "water" that I have http://www.imagestation.com/album/pictures.html?id=2108506851&idx=4. Made it in without lockers, got to the exit and could not climb the verticle wall without them, so I had to back out and climb the rear wall out. as I was going through this "water pit" I was looking over the wake of water that had reached my cowling under the windshield. I am riding 37" Pj dirt grips on about 13" of lift. Made it out without any water in the cab (quick driving) and only a thrown Ujoint strap.
Before the SAS, and before they closed down all the waterways in Texas, I once had my Nose of the truck sticking up out of the water (three inch suspension and three inch body lift) while my German sheppard sat on my shoulders because the cab was filling up with water. I had about 6" of water over my lap.About the only thing that did not get soaked in the cab was my ECU! I never got any photos of that one, but there were a few floating aroudn the old Texas Delphi board.

i was offroading the day after huricane ivan about a year and a half ago with some girls and so i wasnt thinking with my right head, i tried to cross a section of trail that was under, i kept going until i started floating and had to abandon the truck, i swam back to it and went under water to get in the window to put the truck in neutral and then me and 3 friends pushed/pulled it to shore, the cab was all the way under but the tail gate was barely above water, insurance paid for it because it was hurricane damage and i ended up with a nicer taco and the juckyard that bought my truck got a bunch of aftermarket stuff, one guy took pictures on his phone but i didnt know him very well so i dont have pictures

What he's implying is that there are many other things that can go wrong at a level of submersion deep enough to where those particular breather extensions come into play. One of the reasons I keep my stupid body lift.
If frequent deep water ops are your thing, the alternator, fan, and various wiring & electrical components should be addressed.

Well of course, I sort of figured that was the case. That will just be one less problem however if you were in that situation. I try to stay out of the deep water as much as possible, but when I do get into it, I like to have as much protected as possible. More protection=less damage.

Yes I believe you were! Wasn't the engine/hood area the highest point of my truck? Never got any water near the engine, but I did have to drain the t case.
I did thank you for the tug right? If not thanks!LOL
Who was the one that turned our trucks in to submarines in that photo I remember seeing?
Funny thing about it all Brad? with my truck now, I don't even think the water level would have been up to my rocker panals. I would definitely be in better shape now! Might have sunk deeper since I am now so much heavier, but would not have been in such deep water.

I was definitely trying to get to Ralph, he looked (at the time) to be in worse shape than I was, plus he had his girls with him.
I still remember that "sick feeling" looking into my back seat and seeing my speaker boxes floating and then seeing them sink into the water. "I knew for sure if I turned the engine off, I wasn't going to get it started again"…I just got lucky. did I already have the supercharger by then? I don't remember.
Up here there is a lot more mud than rock. You saw that other photo of mine didn't you? that was to test out the power of the 5.29/5.39 combo, I ain't going that deep again!

That pic sure looks familiar. 2 months after I got my Taco (Oct 99) I was jackin around in a construction zone that was flooded after recent rains and wound up nicking a junction hole for storm drains that hadnt been filled in yet. (2 days later stuck a 12' 2X4 in the same hole and only 3' stuck out of that hole!! Thank god I only nicked the edge of that hole!!) Trying to get the truck out put me in pretty much the same spot you are in, but my bug shield and front wheel well openings were completely under water... The water was about 2" from the bottom of the dash inside the truck. It took MONTHS for me to get used to water crossings again. Sick doesnt quite do justice to feeling you get watching your tach go from redline to -0- in seconds. Luckily blowing the water out and flushing ALL the fluids kept it running problem free for 3 years. Finally stripped the threads from the #3 spark plug in the head doing a tune up, Im sure the serious RPMs hydrolock had something to do with that, and the power door locks never dried out. Other than that and a fresh alternator it still runs like a top! Dont know what happened to the pics though...
I was dubbed the "Submarine Commander" for years in the DFW-TX4WD club. Thought that was NEVER going to die...

:D when we were working on my truck we drained 3to 5 gallons of water out of the muffler alone, my sub box was full of water and my glover box, we got mine running for a few minutes then it backfired and the airfilter caught fire,
o ya my gas tank was 1/4 full when i went in and filled up all the way when i was out, i drained it and replaced the fuel filter and ALL the fluids in the truck and spark plugs and battery and any thing that could cheaply be replaced after the water, it ran all-right until the fire after that we gave up (my parents got tired of waiting) and called the insurance people they came out and imediatly totaled it, they also told me to get the full value of what they were offering i had to leave my tires and wheels on there or the offer would go down, i pulled off the fender flares, toolbox, wet oakles and subs i forgot to get my full size on a black rockcrawler rim swamper ssr, i also got and extra $750 from insurance because they thought my truck was a trd

The first day I had my truck I took it out with a buddy. I was leading the way and we came to a mud hole that we "remembered" wasn't too bad. Well, it ended up being up to my side windows deep and splashed over the hood and windshield. I reached for the ignition after I pulled it into 4wd, but the engine never complained.
That was back when I was on 225/75R15's though. So for guys on 35's I guess that hole would have just about covered your tire.

Marshall Creek in Trophy club (now illegal) stalled the engine, didn't think about the intake being behind the left headlight. this is after the first pull out attempt, the headlight was submerged. pulled the plugs changed the filter and she started right up only to get stuck 10 feet to the left. (in this pic I was running 31's with 1" body lift

For posting this :flamesuiton: or for diving into the mud twice? :flipoff:
I was getting my 10 year mudbath at the time! :D
Sad part I had walked across the mud in the second stuck and it seemed fine. I guess the crust was load rated for a tad over 210 lbs.

Oh I see now, you were talking about water crossings. LOL
Musta' been at check in at the hotel front desk when she put her glasses on . . . "STOP . . . No . . . Oh, my God NOoooooo!" Dropped her crack pipe as she ran off!
Good thing you didn't put your glasses on!
