Hey Cottora,

Ok So Brian and Doug from New Mexico and Troy from Ohio are coming to Colorado to Run Carnage Canyon and something else on Saturday May 27th and Sunday May 28th. (Mem Day Weekend) Here is what I need to figure out. What day do we run Carnage? I want as many CoTTORA peeps to be there as possible because our NM friends are a kick in the pants! I am leaning towards running Canrage on Sunday because I know that means Vinny can do it. What about YotaMaster, Wil, PimpToy, and spindleshanks - cuz all of you expressed interest in being there. (Any the rest of ya that I may not have asked).

The other day I thought we'd run something up near the Springs or BV. DO you think Spring Creek will be fairly snow free by then? That might be a good option.

So post up your thoughts. We are planning to camp probably the night between the runs.

Werd :D

if you run carnage on sunday i can probaly make it, not positive on a family thing happenin or not, lol. as far as spring creek goes some peeps on co4x4 ran it and made it through the snow at the top, just make sure there is at least 1 winch and lotsa tow straps, just in case that is, lol

C'mon peeps - we gotta figure out what day to di what. Pimp you available for both days? Brian is as crazy as Darrick when it somes to wheeling so it should be good times...

Also Carnage and Spring Creek are open to stock trucks, you just have to take the easier lines. We've got stock trucks through carnage in the snow without much fanfare.... :D

I cannot on Sunday. Wife and I are hosting an open house for our graduating cadets and their families. If you're doing something around the Springs, I would prefer to lead Eagle Rock on Saturday and save carnage for Sunday. But do what's better for the majority of the peeps.

I wouldn't take a stock truck spring creek the rock garden would tear them up.

Maybe she should have said "stock truck with some protection"? How bad is the rock garden?

yeah I did... no problems. Spring creek is easier. The bypass to the rock garden has gotten nasty, we watched a few chevys put some nice love marks in their rear quarter panel. The way us stockers running without protection made it was just manuever in and out of the bypass and rock garden. Its simple, just looks for lines that are do-able. Spring creek is not that hard of a trail, ya'll be fine

ha... getting to spring creek is easy, getting up it is pretty hard to get lost (outside of a one confusing intersection, don't worry the other trails lead to dead ends, ya'll figure it out)... but getting out of there once you've finished the trail is really confusing... wish ya had Derrick around right now, he new of a playground on the way back! But if ya do it right you'll head out of downieville and end up in georgetown. I'd lead but, well yeah... anyhow sounds like Jas is going and has been there :D

Lysmachia
05-20-2006, 07:44 PM
Well we want to camp so maybe we can all camp jenny creek sat night... then hit spring creek or jenny creek. Pimp you up for that? I REALLY want you on this run. Plus you will so get a kick out of Brian. He is as crazy as Darrick!!

Side note - isn't there a statewide fire ban??? Makes camping a PITA...

Ok here is how everything is shaping up:

Brian and NM company arrive on Friday night around 5:00. We'll go have dinner at some cool bar in Boulder and drink. Nough said. All are welcome.

Sat morning. Meet at Carnage Canyon at 10:00 CB Channel 7 We'll run carnage at least once and maybe 2x.

Sat evening we drive up towards moffat tunnel and jenny creek and camp up near there. There does not seem to be a fire ban in that area.
http://www.dola.state.co.us/oem/PublicInformation/firebans/firebans2006.htm

Sunday morning we either run Jenny Creek or Spring Creek depending on who we have (A Spring Creek trail lead would be nice! LOL)

Sunday Night - we'll prolly camp again (At least Brian, MYself Troy and any other NM Jackals will).

Monday Morning - NM goes home.

Here is who I have listed:

Brian, and Doug from NM. Possibly Adam. Troy from Ohio.

From Colorado: Jeremy (Spindleshanks) and Lauren. Myself, and then possibly Pimp Toy. I still haven't heard back from a few other cottora peeps. I am also going to post this up on Yotatech for those guys as well.

Any suggestions, questions or gripes? :D

Well as tempting as that sounds... Sun is too far in advance to plan. I will in most cases be sleeping or in Junction. I can't seem to remember how close Jenny is to Spring... but I'm sure ya'll figure it out there. Plus I am a driver unless in a large sexy red Taco... lol! Anyhow, thats all I am is a smart ass, drop the ass and I know your not looking at me... :p

Yeah I wonder if Kingston Peak will be impassable due to snow... Because it would be cool to camp up in mamoth basin, and run Kingston down to fall river road and then over to Spring Creek... I just don't know if we can get over it.

Well as of May 22nd it appears that Jenny Creek is impassable.... way too much snow!

http://www.colorado4x4.org/vbb/showthread.php?t=65661

Spring Creek is however passable...
http://www.colorado4x4.org/vbb/showthread.php?t=65559

Anyone know where there is decent camping up near spring creek?

Also Twin Cone is open so that is another option:

More possible trip reports here. I wish I had a leader fro Indy cuz I'd be all over that!

Molly,

I would like to go on Saturday. I have to be at work at 1:30 though. I can go straight from there to work if you think it would work out with your infinate knowledge :) If it wasn't for those damn airplanes I could stay the day.......

Since that's tomorrow (and I am at work now), I will check in here often and might even give you a call. You are no doubt throwing a few back as I type this!

We had a great time yesterday running Carnage. I now believe everyone had some carnage or mechanical issue in the end (Ok, maybe not Molly). Molly promises to get pics loaded as soon as possible.

Since I had to work, I know the rest are still out enjoying themselves. I did however, on the way home have a rear end issue I wanted to see if those here can help. I posted the issue HERE. (http://www.tacomaterritory.com/forum/showthread.php?p=429488#post429488). I am hoping someone else here, maybe locally, can offer some words or even help here. It's a new truck and I am positive the dealer will just laugh at me if I take it in.

Thanks in advance!!

Brian, Molly and I ended up doing it again today when the other trails (Middle St. Vrain and Coney Flats) near where we camped were still closed for season. The creeks were RAGING in that area though, and I understand those two trails involve stream crossings which would have been very dangerous.

Pix should be up at www.cottora.shutterfly.com/action

lol... Middle St Vrein is nothing, but there's a pretty big water crossing on Coney Flats... This pic was from a late summer run during a pretty good drought... we saw a Jeep hydrolock last summer
