How much water can I cross with high probability of success?
Every yr I need to cross the Little Missouri river in ND...to get to the other side... which supports my mountain bike wilderness habit. This is fairly remote, with no means to get pulled out without riding bike many 20-30 miles to a rancher for beg for help.
If I do not cross it there are 50 miles of trails I do not get to enjoy.
Last year the river was too high, for me. Wimped out.
But it begs the question, how deep can (should) I go? 2ft? 2.5?
What is the driver technique? slow steady push of water?
Details: 01 taco dcab 3.4 A/T, 4x4, pretty stock, but with r diff breather mod, gray wire mod, intake elbow removed, 265/75R16. no winch, no real off-road mods.
The river has a great gravel base, fairly smooth. I've walked it each yr before crossing. The pic shows the deepest crossing to date in some friends trucks.
The driver, me, is an old farm boy who was too respectful of his dad to go 4 wheeling with his new farm truck.
I figure a forum sit like this could help.... P.S. searching the site did not reveal more than photo's from others, which is helpful, but they have other vehicles for help.
