The 3RZ-FE 2.7L makes 150hp. compared to the 190hp. of the 3.4L V6.

I don't remember torque numbers off-hand.. :(

It's no power house but my little 3RZ-FE just turned 240,000.. It doesn't burn a drop of oil, still gets over 20mpg (except in winter city driving or when i'm pounding on it) and i have never had a problem.. And, no pesky timing belts to change!!!! Just gets 5.6 qts of 5w30 every 3k miles and a new filter, new..
I'm hoping to see over 300,000 out of this engine atleast..

3rz is "huge" for a 4cyl. although it's not as powerful than the v6 it has some advantages over the v6.

22r and 3rz are notorious for doing lots of miles with less maintanance.

Since all of us 4 banger owners are in agreement, I'll take this thread to the next level.

"The 3RZ is the best engine Toyota ever built."

There, that oughta liven things up.... :D

Let's see which one is still on the road in 20 years... :D

I would never buy a Tacoma with a 4cyl, but that's just me. I spend too much time with dirt bikes in the bed, and I like to go fast. After having my truck supercharged since a week after I bought it, I dont think I could ever even drive a NA V6 tacoma. With fuel mods going on within a few weeks, it'll just be that much more fun.

Here's little example what our little 4 banger can do or should i say take..

"During its dyno testing at its secondary West Coast shop called Twins Turbo, the tC actually shut down the machine at 1,250 whp even though its potential is estimated at an unbelievable 1,400hp. Creating the power is a Toyota 3RZ-FE 2.7-liter, 4-cylinder, single turbo engine."

They didn't have a dyno sheet, but here is the link..

Let's see....good power in stock form, capable of incredible power when modified, and it's longevity is the stuff legends are made of. Yep, I can see why people wouldn't want this engine. What was I thinking?

I dont think that counts as a good comparison as that has some forced induction. Sure a 4 cylinder can have very high hp with FI. I used to have a gsr and it was kinda slow goin to a 4cyl taco but hey, its a truck. I dont care if its fast. It has plenty of power for the hauling i do and offroading. I dont see the point of having that much power in a 4wd truck. Its not needed offroad and onroad youll just flip trying to handle turns.

I don't either!! It's no fun. I wish I had left it stock. :jack:

YEAH RIGHT!!

The power is controlled by the skinny pedal. If you don't need the power---don't push the pedal.

Yup. When you're in some deep mud or snow it's nice to have power to get the tires spinning...without having to rev the piss out of your motor.

yea, horsepower isnt needed offroad at all  so i guess those guys with the 1000 hp v8 trophy trucks dont need it, maybe they should swap in a 4 banger :jack:

hell no i have ~105k on my 02 v6, thing runs like its brand new, has never given me a problem and i beat it to hell. The only thing done to it is the timing belt and water pump, and of course some oil changes and spark plugs. You guys don't have to worry about the timing belt but its less than 600 every 4 years, so the extra power is very worth it.

i like the 4 banger for road use mainly if i wanted to get from point A to point B, but im regretting not having the v6 for hauling and extra power, i modded my 4 cyl and thought it was a waste of time due to the $$ for horsepower factor, thats why im swapping a cummins 3.9, a real 4banger with fuel efficiency and power and simplicity

I'm sure in some off road racing high power is wanted but for the wheeling i do and i would think most on here do, the 4 cyl has adequate power.

Im not sure what your saying but I can tell you my gsr with a full suspension setup would outhandle any 4wd truck on here.. ha on the road of course.

When your v6 gets close to a quarter million miles let me know what type of gas mileage your getting. I'm still getting 20 around town and 22-23 on the highway. My truck is a daily driver and takes me back and forth to work for 30,000 miles a year. 30 extra hp only eats up fuel for me. It is all in what your using your truck for. If I was predominately towing or hauling heavy loads the v6 would be a far better choice for me. But right now, the 3rz-fe works awsome for my application.
