View Full Version : most work needed before Take Over?
Of the members that are attending this year's Take Over, with just about 6 weeks away. Who has the most work to do on their rig before the event?
My laundry list starts with regearing my front axle with new gears since I busted up my "brand new" 5.38's (just after 5 runs)(and no, it wasn't because I was on the skinny too much)
Here is my list:
Fix front gears
clean up and repair O2 sensor wires
Grease carrier bearing
Fix Power steering pump leak
Buy spare tire
Welding
Install rear diff guard
Build hi-lift hold down
Build rear bumper
Build spare tire carrier
Add brush guard to sliders
Ubolt flip kit install
plus all the normal maintence such as fluid changes and such.

Wow you got me beat.Just need to get some bumpstop and get them mounted, get cb installed in den instead of just laying on seat and that little issuse with my pb cable which buy the way i think i have solution for.I'm just gonna move it behind the shocks and cut the cable supports off.Do we need to come down a week early and help ya get that thing ready to go?You better get off here and get to work.
Help is always good, but I think I got my stuff covered. Things like the rear bumper and modifying the sliders is really just optional stuff anyway. It would be nice to get it all done, but it won't keep me off the trails if you know what I mean.
If I am understanding you correctly on your PB cable. I saw that option, but I think it would be better to angle the shocks a bit as my original suggestion. But it is your truck, your choice and I am sure what ever you decide it will be a good choice.
Back to topic though. I hate this time of year! I always get preoccupied thinking about take over and what I need to do to my truck before the event!
I just remembered another task I need to complete…I need to move my rear axle as it is too far forward right now.
Hmmm maybe you should come down a week earlier so you can help me with the grinder. :saw: :lmao:

mine has to go to the body shop to get a fucked up prior repair re-done and then i need to armor it the best I can, add recovery points and do some general maintence.
So you barely fit into catagory two then? ;) Barely out of catagory one.

My Tundra is currently sitting on four jackstands looking like a big freak  ! My Stazworks rims are supposed to arrive next week (they have 4-1/2 of them complete with tires mounted, but are still waiting on one rock ring).
I also have no front axle on the truck right now. My Rockcrusher housing is supposed to be complete tomorrow, so I hope to be building it by the end of next week...........but then there's figuring out where the steering ram will live now, re-working the tie rod and drag link since my new axle will be 70" WMS - WMS, cutting of sheetmetal for the new 37's to clear, and the rest of the shakedown work required to be confident in this new set-up.......gonna be some long nights ahead for me  !
I have been quietly lerking in the shadows of the board watching everything you have been throwing at your truck. That damn thing is already a beast! there won't be anything safe after you are finished. It is truely going to be a work of art!
Sounds like you have a decent handle on things though, so in the infamous words…"git-r-done!"
But 70" WMS? One word…DAYUM!

1. i need new skids to slap on (waiting for allpro to put em out for sale).
2. probably need to paint the skids as well.
3. also need some sliders to throw on.
4. a cb install and tune.
5. i want to plumb all my breathers to the air box.
6. fluids/greasing, general maintanence.
7. come up with new turn signals
8. new air filter might be needed by the end of july
lets see what else gets added to this list before july 20.
the wallet is curled up in a dark corner somewhere as i type this.:D
I genereally do all my fluid changes prior to big wheeling trips, although you could probably toss a coin as to which is best to do.
I think of it as I know I'll be driving the truck hard so the fresh stuffs gives me a feeling of protecting moving parts.
But I also always do an inspection after those same runs and if I feel it is needed, I'll change the fluids again! It might be a waste of money doing it this way, but I figure an ounce of prevention…

+ install CB
+ install extended rear brake line (something thats been on my to-do list for about a month now, god i'm bad)
+ change oil and filters
+ fix sway bar connection (damn thing won't get tight and won't come loose, the clanking it causes has been driving me fuckin nuts)
i better light a fire under my ass and finish this list. i still want to paint my whole truck spray can style but i don't think i'll have my new custom diy paintjob ready in time ... i still can't pick a design.

I wanted to get new Front and Rear tube bumpers before TakeOver, but now it's clear that THAT ain't gonna happen.
Now I'm just hoping I can finally get a full size spare by then.
However, I'm pretty sure that I'll have my new skid plate just in time for TakeOver :wink2:

I need to install Body lift to stop the tire rubbing, if I can get my downeys rebuilt in time I will put those on, replace bed bar mounting bolts so it don't fall out, take diff drop off so I can put skid plate back on, and probably be about time to change fluids and grease everything...Might even take the BFH to the pinch welds. I did this when I had 31's but now I am sporting 33's and they were rather noisy at Gilmer this weekend.
I am also going to change all the fender flare bolts to pan head screws so the tires will slide over them better.

1. Oil change
2. Change oil in both diff’s
3. Repaint sliders ( ah maybe)
4. Install e-locker guard (yeah only been sitting in my garage for about 3 months)
5. Stare at dent in beside and hope I fixes it’s self because I don’t have the money to get it fixed.
6. Wash and wax, so it looks good in the mall parking lot again. :D

I have a feeling that I am going to have to compromise…in other words, make sure that the important functional work gets done while the bling, non-important things such as the spare rack are going to be put on hold!
I mean it is like this. Do I need 4wd more than I need to bend tubing for the tire rack? do I need a dependable truck to get down there or bling rock guards for the trail?LOL
Know what I mean Vern?
The truck will be trail worthy again next week, so after that, what I get done will only be icing! and three weeks can be a long time! my concern is money.LOL!

That is pretty adventersome! I wanted to make sure and get my done over the winter so I would have all spring to test things out before T.O…glad I did because I am still finding minor bugs.
I keep butting heads against the wall with my drive shaft! I fixed my carrier, replaced a ujoint and now I have to go back into it because I didnt' notice the shop that built the carrier, got it out of phase by rotating the flange!
That and a new big screen TV has slowed me down! But I am making progress. got the brackets for the hi-lift welded up, just have to figure mounting points which is no biggy!

The whole topic of Jh3 doing his SAS has got me wondering, especially since I know another member trying to get his done before take over.
What was the largerst number to date of SAS rigs at Take Over?
I have been to one Texas Take Over and one National Take Over and I think the largerst number at either one of those was like 3 or 4 sas rigs tops. I would guess this year we are going to have at least 9 or 10 maybe more. But I am sure that the year before last they easily topped that number being it was held in Tahoe.

I gotta do the fluids
Check the power steering (might be a leak)
fix some dents for free...(gotta love hookups)
But majorly do you think I can get a Marlin trans in before takeover?... They have a two week lead time plus shipping. So IDK. I gotta order it by this month if I am going to do it. I would probably be breaking in the tranny on the way down to AK. bout 600 miles. Change the fluid, then change it again after I get back.

Ha! They actually "think" they found it in a aircraft container in Kansas City and they "think" that they can get it to me on Monday. Apparently there were "other" priority shipments that had more "priority" than mine, I sure do wish I could get within arms reach of the jackass who made that call:mad: ! Anyways.....guaranteed 2nd day delivery in 7 days, now that's F*ing service BAX Global  !
On another note, Parts Mike has already got tubes installed in a second housing just in case these idiots have indeed lost it.
Just remember kiddies......when you need something delivered several days later than promised.......just call Baxtard Global shipping company for all your shipping needs  !
