"proper" (or, at least, accepted) form is - if you are sending someone to a new site, you do so in a new window.

What, do I look like a web designer or something???

And no, a better question is.............what are you doing looking at the intraweb when you have a crawler to finish installing and IFS to cut off????

even better question - why not just bookmark the forum and bypass it altogether?

browsing, for many people is not a linear task. "Web" works on a lot of levels, from how you traverse to how you think.

personally, it annoys the shit out of me when a site drives me away when I click a link. I'd rather have the old site there for reference in case I'm not done using it. Then I close it if need be.

That's what I think too..........sometimes you get caught up in something and you loose track of where you found a link to begin with.

Use Firefox and its tab browsing feature... when multiple tabs are open, you won't accidentally close the window due to a prompt.
