so troy came over today to help me with the bumper install since its 77lbs and im 114lbs LOL

anywho! the instructions that came with it were not 100% correct...

it said to unclip the plastic clips on the bumper cover, and it would come off...
there were screws.. and the skid plate had to come off for me before i could even get the bumper off.
sooo ya undo all the screws on this sides and bottom...
http://shim1.shutterfly.com/procgserv/47b6d805b3127cce98548b6b223200000007100IZMWzVsyZMS

(see the screw here:)
http://shim1.shutterfly.com/procgserv/47b6d805b3127cce98548b68a30100000007100IZMWzVsyZMS

after ya undo all the screws on the bumper, undo and take down your skidplate:
http://shim1.shutterfly.com/procgserv/47b6d805b3127cce98548b69223000000007100IZMWzVsyZMS

when you pull the bumper out and away a little you will uncover these (in the fender well) you need to undo them too
http://shim1.shutterfly.com/procgserv/47b6d805b3127cce98548b54a33d00000007100IZMWzVsyZMS

while looking down through the grille at the bumper, you have all these little pop clip guys you need to undo (flathead screwdriver to lift the top part up)
http://shim1.shutterfly.com/procgserv/47b6d805b3127cce98548b55220c00000007100IZMWzVsyZMS

example of where the pop clip guy came from (looking down from top of grille)
http://shim1.shutterfly.com/procgserv/47b6d805b3127cce98548b52a33b00000007100IZMWzVsyZMS

after those are done (i think there were 4) you should be good to take off the bumper and look like this:
http://shim1.shutterfly.com/procgserv/47b6d805b3127cce98548b53220a00000007100IZMWzVsyZMS

http://shim1.shutterfly.com/procgserv/47b6d805b3127cce98548b50a33900000007100IZMWzVsyZMS

then you have to remove the metal bumper support (on pretty effin good, so get a pipe for your wratchet):
http://shim1.shutterfly.com/procgserv/47b6d805b3127cce98548b51220800000017100IZMWzVsyZMS

and then you look like this:
http://shim1.shutterfly.com/procgserv/47b6d805b3127cce98548b5ea33700000017100IZMWzVsyZMS

you then remove the grille (some pop clips and bolts)
http://shim1.shutterfly.com/procgserv/47b6d805b3127cce98548b5f220600000017100IZMWzVsyZMS

http://shim1.shutterfly.com/procgserv/47b6d805b3127cce98548b5ca33500000017100IZMWzVsyZMS

then you have to reposition the AC line
remove this bracket on the driver side and push the line to be snug up against the metal radiator supports
http://shim1.shutterfly.com/procgserv/47b6d805b3127cce98548b5d220400000017100IZMWzVsyZMS

then put on your bumper:
http://shim1.shutterfly.com/procgserv/47b6d805b3127cce98548b5aa33300000017100IZMWzVsyZMS

http://shim1.shutterfly.com/procgserv/47b6d805b3127cce98548b5b220200000017100IZMWzVsyZMS

you can see AC line here (after it has been moved)
http://shim1.shutterfly.com/procgserv/47b6d805b3127cce98548b58a33100000017100IZMWzVsyZMS

this is how close it fits even after repositioning... i am gonna grind the bumper down some so its got a little clearance.. and make it round instead of sharp
http://shim1.shutterfly.com/procgserv/47b6d805b3127cce98548b59220000000017100IZMWzVsyZMS

here is what the little skid plate looks like.. my only *complaint* is that the support braces on the bumper line up in the middle of the holes, instead of between holes...
http://shim1.shutterfly.com/procgserv/47b6d805b3127cce98548b46a32f00000017100IZMWzVsyZMS

here is where the bumper skid plate mounts to the bumper:
http://shim1.shutterfly.com/procgserv/47b6d805b3127cce98548b47221e00000017100IZMWzVsyZMS

and you can see here where you need to cut off your inner fender liner...
http://shim1.shutterfly.com/procgserv/47b6d805b3127cce98548b44a32d00000007100IZMWzVsyZMS

i was only test fitting it to make sure it fit before i painted it... (ive learned ALWAYS test fit before painting) so i didnt re-install the grille or cut out the fender linings or put the skid plate back on....

and i didnt take pictures of all the install b/c some of the steps were right along w/ the provided instructions and were super easy..

anyways its a very nice fitment and definitely makes the approach angle WAY WAY WAY better!
and its a hella nice bumper IMHO.

GOT COPE?

Great install writeup...BUT, I don't like the 'reposition the AC line'....

Imagine if you are moving that line; and it kinks and/or breaks. That will be one expenisve AC repair job....Your looking at a new line, and then a complete recharging of the system. IMO, not a good design.

But I love the writeup, nice Job; Una. Bumper looks really good!

When I installed my ARB I had to bend the A/C line out of the way or the winch would have rubbed the line. I wasn't excited about moving it, but had no choice. The A/C line just sticks out too far.

Can't wait to see SOMEONE bend and break this line...if there is a chance of it happening, somebody will break it eventually. It is a VERY thin line....and I bet it ain't cheap.

Nice install and thanks for the photos!
One question, when will you install an air horn and remove that wimpy factory unit?

06-25-2006, 11:58 AM
i wouldnt even be worried abotu the line breaking and not being cheap to fix... what about the idea of its got really cold as refidgerant in it? stuff that if it touched your skin, would be bad.....

OFRD_GRL
06-25-2006, 07:58 PM
yea... but there was no way around moving it... even now i still have to grind part of the bumper to make sure it clears it.. and its against a sharp edge which isnt that great of an idea as it is :)

one thing at a time...

i have to weigh my priorities in order of fundage LOL

protection... lights... winch... lift... wheels/tires.. vs horn LOL

that will come eventually...

that "bumper support" looks like it was taken right off a FJ40 and hidden under the plastic as to not scare the kids at the mall hehe.....

OFRD GRL is preoccupied with riding the Rubicon (actually, riding someone on the Rubicon, but that's a story for another day  ) and hasn't picked it up from paint yet.

You could always paint the stock skid black so its not as noticable, or just SAS it real quick :D . Also, spiral wrap is some cheap insurance for that AC line. Nice write up and pics though! And its a good thing you showed Andy how to wheel before the Soup Bowl fiasco :) So next year yur bringin that thing to the Con on 37's and D60's right?

Nice close up of the skid plate, may be you can state that they have shock absorbers to take on the rock hits! :)
