Front is finally done, just waiting on glass to show up on the door step. I'm super stoked on how it turned out, came out pretty good for a first time build (in my opinion), any criticisim you have can only help. The rear has to wait until next week. Thanks to all who helped me out with parts/materials/stupid questions, I really appreciate it. Thanks guys.....

Damn, looks like some nice work there. Is that rear reservoir going to be in the way of the wheel travel?

Nope, I just cycled it. at full lock and full compression its still about 2" away w/ 33x12.50's. I am concerned about my brake lines tho. I have square fittings on the caliper and at full lock they contact the coil a little with one corner. I may just grind it off to fix though. I did hear that front range or all pro makes rounded fittings but you have to buy the entire line. Not worth it to me if I can fix with a grinder.
The rear is getting 58.5 inch springs and 16" SAW's. I'd love to race when I move back out west, but don't have the time, money, or a wife willing to let me . Maybe if that day comes or I spectate heavily (that I will definately do) I'll upgrade to 62's and 18's.

Got front glass on. I see what you guys mean in tha other thread about fit. It's Glassworks stuff, just got here yesterday. It all fits really well with hood/fender and door/fender gaps and all, as well as being the right height to make the hood and fender flush, but the corner marker light cutout is pretty shitty. I think the cutout is almost cocked a little, no amount of sanding was going to fix it, oh well. Bedsides and rear setup to follow, after that I'll get the ride height dialed in and get some action shots up. Man I can't wait to get the fcuk outta here.....

Rear glass made it a few days ago, rear springs & stuff are going on this weekend. Cage will wait until I move back to san diego, I don't trust myself or anyone here to do it...

Naval Weapons Station Charleston SC, Thanks to all serving our country, I'm certainly thankful and lucky to be stationed stateside. On topic related, its very hard to find a place here to test and tune Steve's suspension.

To bad you guy's weren't closer to Ft. Bragg. We had some killer Desert style terrain on the Drop Zones and Tank trails. No one ever bothered us out there either. Just had to watch out for Artillery rounds droppin out of the sky.lol Some killer times.

Yep, serving our country....fighting terrorists one page of the RPM at a time....
Luke, what you need to do is hack the front end off of yours, & SAC it. Then we can both have rediculously unnecessary DD's...

300hp + hockey puck spacer front suspension = 1 shitty ride..... and that motor, I think it might be on it's last legs man, every time you gas it it makes that loud hi-pitch whine....I dunno probably ought to have that looked at......

You're just jealous cus you dont have old man emu springs like I do! I cant even spell eibach let alone pronounce it. Maybe you'll understand some day. About my motor, I think you might be rigte every time I get in the gas it makes that horrible whining noise, I think the lower rotator bearing on the front drive assembly might be eating itself, either that or I'm out of power steering fluid, one or the other. I'll look into it and get back to you.

yeah, it hasn't been ThAT hard to test the truck, I've got a couple of places, just powerline roads that have been really helpful. I've been able to dial in the shocks pretty well as far as I can tell. I got them used & they were already valved for a taco, I did put larger resi's on the bypases and have played with them a little over the last couple of nights, I'm far from a shock expert so it's been more of a trial and error thing adjusting the compression and rebound.
SC is only temporary, no offense to any one from here, but it's not for me....

Yeah Kyle you rode in my truck... I'm thinking maybe the noise isnt engine related at all, maybe something in the rear axle, cus every time it makes the noise it seems to make a tire noise and smoke emits from the rear wheel wells, maybe one of the rear wheel bearings is going bad causing me to drag a tire, LoL. On a related note to Steve's Taco, those tires and wheels should look familiar Kyle, they're the ones off your 85 4Runner, those black spoke wheels work like a charm and fit great by the way!

Here's my first attempt at a prerunner. I'm pretty damn happy with it. Gets every last bit of 16" in the rear, 13" in the front. Didn't take any pics with the bed on yet, it's on, still needs to be painted, but damn what a ride. I'm counting down the days until I'm back out west, hopefully I can hook up with a couple of you for some surf down in baja.....thanks for all the help!!!

The bed's on, just has a hole in it. I'll wait till I relocate to ditch the bed, and have someone who actually knows what they're doing to do the cage. Bed looks crooked in the picture, its not tho, I guess I just suck with a camera.

need to work on the stance too, I have enough tube for a spare tire mount & the springs will settle I'm sure, that ought to help. I'm trying to avoid dialing up the coils as much as possible, it works so damn well as is.

Looks really good. It's hard to tell what's going on with the upper shock mounts from the pictures you've posted, but I'd consider adding a little more plate to those between the two tubes. Maybe box them in completely with two vertical plates and one on top? All of the welds look REALLY good, but I'd still add a few flat plate gussets on the outside of the bedcage to reinforce those mitered corners.

10-05-2006, 04:48 PM
Yeah, I figured some reenforcement will be necessary in the rear. I was just trying to avoid putting any twisting force applied by the shocks on the upper tube of the bedcage. That's why I went with 2 tubes instead of 1. Other than that it's really only a knock off inspired by your write up on the red truck.....thanks for the help! One of these days I'll have to invest the time and $$$ in learning how to use a tubing bender....I;m kinda big on being self sufficient when it comes to this stuff. Oh well, maybe santa will bring me a JD2 model 4 or something.... I still need to get a real spare tire mount, and some sort of bumpers on the thing. I wish Hanson Ent. would make that bumper for a taco they said they were contemplating a year ago, you got really lucky with the one you got. Nice and simple......

You gotta make do with what you can find here on the wrong coast for this truck. Don't laugh too hard, its been a slow work in progress. In 9 months the navy will finally let me get back to SD.....until then this is all I can do.

Looks sick bro! Thats a totally sick gnar front bumper! I feel like an idiot for not taking pics when we both had our trucks in the dunes in FL, a side by side shot with both trucks in the air would have been bad ass, oh well thats a chance we probably wont have for a LONG time to come! Way to go finding the only place in the south east to jump your truck!

I just noticed that you can see your pretty blue front caliper in the top pic on the drivers side. How much HP did that add? Had to have been like 40 or 50! Not that BS crankshaft hp numbers either! I'm talking to the rear tires! No wonder it chirps the tires into 2nd gear so easily!

When is that Kyle? Also where, yes I'm too lazy to search, and Steve doesnt even have 4wd in that thing yet... 4.88's in the rear and 4.10's in the front still! Not to mention my cryo's rear 4.56's are currently missing 3 teeth off the ring gear, got a new set sitting here just not in and set up yet.

04-18-2007, 11:10 PM
Luke how did you break your cryo 4:56s? Hell I'm still flogging my 5.29s, I guess it's all about contact patch(gear deflection). Mine are set deep(race setup), causes more wear and heat but keeps from breaking teeth.
