well after a couple sleepless nights due to the decisions I had to make about the Tires and Wheels for my B Package. I did it.
18x9 Jesse James Lawless 6 Wheels with 285/60/18 Nitto Terra Grapplers.
Dispite all the pros and cons that I already new. I opted for the 18's cause I just loved how they look. For the offroading that I do they will be sufice (bootin to fishing holes, logging roads, the odd venture into the wilderness.)
I would love to know what you all think. I will post more pictures if requested.
Oh yea, please dont make fun of the wussy spare tire, have to get creative without hurtin the wallet.....maybe just a spare tire cover or somthing. :/
Mike.

I think those wheels and tires are going to rub all over your front body mount.
I think the wheels are BLING. I would LOVE to see them scratched up from a trail.
Your spare does not match. I hope you dont blow a rear tire, and put a 17" spare opposite an 18" rim. Get an 18" spare, if you decide to keep them. Or kiss your rear locker goodbye.
Those pics look like you have little to NO clearance on your front. I would be surprised if you do NOT rub on the street. Have you tried to make a U-turn yet? I would love to see you do a u-turn while articulating that front IFS. You need a lift, and even after that, do a body mount chop like I did. Then; flex it out and make sure your wheels dont rub at full turning radius.
Other that that....THe FJ looks good.

Honestly, I think they look like crap. Not my style at all. That's just my opinion though. As long as you like them that's all that matters. :)

There was some rubbing, trimmed the mud flap, and now there is NO rubbing at all ( on the road ) U-Turns and all. however, you are right there would be some clearance issues for off-roading, and I have already lined up to have the front body mounts trimmed.
As Far as a lift goes, I want to put in the Donahoes for the front at 2" and leave the rear for now. hehe, I am already over budget.
Angry Andy, the overall tire hieght is 31.6" exactly the same as stock. is there still a rear locker issue with the spare, forgive me I am not all technically there yet, still learning. I dont know what conflicts with what I have now.

With a locker, your tires must match. Especially on the street. Pavement is not forgiving like dirt is, when it comes to a locked rear axle.
Off-road, the dirt wil compensate for traction issues, SLIGHTLY.
Ideally, you want to have the exact same wheels/tires/tire pressure when locked. Otherwise, your axle gears are not "in sync" with your wheels....and when they are NOT "in sync", your gears are going to get screwed.

Makes perfact sense. and besides, that spare tire looks SOOOO STUPID on there.

Stupid it might look...but it will still get ya off the trail. Lets say you blow out a rear tire. Swap a front tire to the rear, and put the spare on the front. That will get ya home. Better yet, get a matching spare and you wont have to do all that.
The spare I have on my Tacoma STILL does not fit in the front, due to a solid axle swap.....And just thinking about it makes me slap MYSELF in the face for not fixing it in the last two damn years....
If I get a flat tire in the front, I have to move a rear tire up to the front, and put my spare in the rear...my spare wheel does not fit my front axle. Im a fawking jew for not spending the $50 for another spare-rim like I SHOULD. Damn it, I am ordering a new rim this weekend..............<slap myself>

hahah, its all $$$ If I had lots of it My FJ would done but for me its just time. I Am hoping by next May, I will have a matching spare, front coilovers, slider, a new front bumper, and some sort of light bar for my 4 PIAA's. and most of all.....just for ANDY some nice SCRATCHES on the jesse james heheh. I am more concernd about scratching the FJ itself and its already scratched to hel.

True, but I hope nobody drives their FJ with an e-locker switched ON on pavement, cause then they'll probably brake it even with the same tires after a certain number of turns.
And for off-road, you can have different rim size as long as your actual outer tire diameter is the same on both sides - that's the only thing that matters for locker.
Just don't want anybody to get confused.

Or better yet, turn off the diff lock and/or ATRAC and don't worry about it...especially since the OD is the same.

well, I am happy to report we took our FJ for a little venture today on Vancouver Island Chasing after some Spring Salmon, and we ended up on some path that apparently "only big trucks" can go on. I dont know what all the fuss was about, it was all pretty tame. but we put the tires to test on this wierd dusty sandy kinda wierd ground....that only "big trucks" can go on. no flat tires, and no rubbing. but was mainly stright line, with one big long hill, and some ruts from Spring Boggin.
I know the Terra Grapplers wont be as good in the mud as the Toyo MT's (our other choice in tires). But for the trade off, these tires are really quiet on the road and a lot less money. They are also WAY better than the Dunlops that came with the FJ. The Nittos are an awesome tire.

The Nittos are an awesome tire.
I've been running the Nittos for about 3 months now (265/70/17 on OEM alloys). I've used B.F.G.'s for years on past trucks...never a complaint. But the prices have gotten pretty steep...so I'm looking at the Nitto's as a good option and they probably will do very well, unless you want to get really serious about your OR activities. After all the B.F.'s are designed to be the ultimate off road tire...and they win lots and lots of races. But let's face it, not everyone wants or needs the ultimate tire....unless it's a bling "must have" issue!
BTW....the Nittos are much quieter and appear to be wearing very well.....really like them so far.

how do you like the Nitto's?
I had them on my F-350
they were great!
BTW, I like the choice of rims/tires!!!!

Those are not street tires.
Why would you get dirt tires, when you only drive on the street?
Maybe I'm wrong, but I dont recall your rig going off pavement within the last...forever....if I AM wrong, you can bitchslap me....

Who cares what internet cronies think about your taste in wheels tires. Oh and the spare s fine as long as you dont turn on the locker. Just buy a cover and be done with it.
You know what I think looks stupid is when some bonehead puts a jeep axle on a toyota! :welder:
But I guess I just love having LT too much to understand.

"the spare is fine as long as you dont turn on the locker"...
What happens when you blow a tire in the middle of a trail???? Your saying keep going, unlocked....well...good luck with that. Oh yeah, I forgot, LT trails are not 4wd trails, and you LT peeps can get by with different wheel radius's, since you are not locked all around....
But this 'bonehead" had a jeep axle under his Tacoma. And I hope I can pass up the oppertunity to save your ass on the trail someday...although I doubt that will happen. Your LT rig wont make it pass the trailheads that NorCal has to offer.
Keep your LT on the sand....and keep outta actual 4 wheeling posts. The OP here has a 4wd FJ, not a 2wd LT rig. How many LT FJ's are there????

Sorry I guess my WIFE owning a FJ cruiser means I shouldnt be here. The guy said occasional lake trips which means light offroading not the Rubicon. There is a whole world out there Andy and it dont revolve around ya bud.

your stock fj tires are not 31.6", rather they are 30.6". If my memory serves me correct, they are bfg all terrains 265/70/16. The formula for converting to inches is as follows: 265x.70=185.5, then 185.5 divided by 25.4=7.303, then 7.303x2=14.606, then 14.606+16"=30.606" I'm pretty sure the wheels are 16's, but if they are 17's then your right. 265/75/16 does measure out to 31.6" exactly as does a 265/70/17

The FJ's all come with 17" rims, and almost none of them come with the BFG's, rather we get some silly street tire thingy.. I've got Dunlops on mine.. they are not bad on dirt, but everything else but the street they suck.
Plus the tire size formula realy doesn't work, they get you close but the tire mfgs list the actual size of the tires, which may or may not even be close.

Why the hell would you lock up on the street? Isn't the whole point of a locker to ensure power is sent evenly to both sides? That means in a low traction situation off road you will have one axleshaft doing the work of both. Go ahead and run your spare, not only is it really close to the same overall diameter as your new wheels, it won't matter a damn bit off road. Besides, you don't run trails locked for the entire distance do you?

I found a LT FJ on http://www.4wdtoyotaowner.com/FJCruiserRacer.html..it looks pretty cool.....I agree about there being crazy trails up here in NorCal cause i can't go on half the runs with u guys cause i only have a pretty stock T-100 with 33's....P.S. congrats on being the new NorCal prez. hopefully i'll see u out there!! :D
