I had someone tell me that I need to check the breakout point for my 96 rear axle housing. Can anyone tell me what that is. It has something to do with the lowest gearing possible. I see that Randy's r + p offers a 5.71. Will that work. I am running 39.5s in case ya'll were wondering why, why, oh why.

maybe doesnt wheel

and its most likely the 8.4 which is burlier

i have never heard of breakout point, but for you and those tires i would be running 5.29 gears...i dont think our axles can accept 5.71's

you might consider a dana 60 swap for the rear

Dan posted to you first and might be able to help you with the d60 info

I don't think he is actully running 5.71 but asking for advice on what to run. no bigger than 5.29, anything bigger w/ make the pinion teeth too small and prone to breaking. (I think thats how it goes)

BTW i did see a pretacome in an auto trader once running SaTaN's gearing (6.66) don't know if it was a typo or what but thats what it said.

I wouldnt go lower than a 5.29. Im not even sure if a 5.71 is made for the later axles (taco). Both 5.29 and 5.71 pinions have 7 teeth, but the ring had more on the 5.71. Even though they have the same number, the 5.71 gets pretty scary small. And since the weak point even on a 4.88 pinion is the pinion teeth, NOT the ring, youll be asking for trouble.
