So I've been hearing rumors that TC is making a 5.5'' over kit for our trucks. Anybody have any more info they'd like to share? ;)

Damn nice, but I was talking about a kit for the later model tacoma prerunner/4x4. Not the older pickups or taquitos.

I've been lurking in the bushes outside the Total Chaos shop but I haven't seen anything like that yet. I'll snap some photos if I see anything....

I was just thinking the same thing on a 5'' over kit. Now that esb isn't in buisness TC needs to step up to the plate and do the 5''over kit with spindle and every thing, (for the 6lug tacos).

In my opinion there is no reason for a kit with more travel than what TC currently offers. I mean seriously, if your truck is properly valved, maybe with a bypass, what else do you need? TC has a reputation for building BOLT ON systems that improve the performance and reliability of your truck. As it is, enough people are having problems with their otherwise stock truck ripping apart from so called "mild" 3.5 over arms. TC has drawn a fine line between performance and reliability with this kit, and I think anything more should be reserved for a race truck.

Who uses mild in their 3.5'' arms?

Mild = 3.5 vs 5.5, relatively......not mild steel......

TC is always so busy, I don't think they would have time for the R&D unless they saw a demand that would prove profitable - which I don't think there is for a 5 over kit now.

And I would have to gnar-ify my fenders even more for a 5" kit...:eek: wow-zers!

I emailed Total Chaos a while back about a Tacoma Race kit and this was the reply I got back.

"There is serious talk about going into R&D on a Gen 2 Taco kit but we cannot consider the project until November.
Periodically check the web site for any new information or call the shop. End of November we'll know if we are going to do it, so try us back after Thanksgiving."

The problem with a taco race kit is it won't just be a bolt in kit, kind of like the 2wd race kit. Not only will it probably need reinforced (or new) upper mounts, but it will also need a decent engine cage. Oh yea, and the price won't be cheap. The 2wd race kit price tag is $5k without shocks... :o

It depends on what you want for your truck. I agree that the Total Chaos kit, as well as the Camburg kit are more then enough for 90% of the people that have them. Its a simple install, good value, and when valved right they work GREAT. I had Jonny over at RicherRacing.com build me a kit for my truck because after having my Camburg kit on my truck for a few years, I wanted to upgrade it a bit. Never had any problems with my kit and it rode awesome, but there were a few things that Camburg and TC didn't offer that I wanted. Mainly a custom spindle, with a lift built into it. Our trucks don't have the greatest ground clearance in the front without putting a lot of lift into the front end, so the lift spindle gave me a lot more clearence up front. Also I wanted to go a little wider and have a bypass upfront (it was right before both companies offered it with bypass).

The only thing I wish were offered with the Camburg and TC kits were bolt on engine cages, simular to how Camburg offers one for their I-Beam kits. The reason being its just a matter of time before the frames start twisting in with heavy use.
