Thought I'd expand my wheelin' beyond 4X and was thinking of picking this up to drag along on the desert runs...

The owner is selling it for less then 2K and I think I can get them down to $ 1,500. But I've never bought this type of rig and the thing was never registered or green stickered... I think a bill of sale is all that is available... What is the procedure in California to get this thing green tagged and how costly is that ? Will a bill of sale suffice ? Is this done thru the DMV ? And how big of a hassle is it going to be ?

What's a good website/forum to lean more about this or just buggies in general ?

Ah fark... maybe I should have put this in desert tech... :dunno:

You got a trailer for me to get it home ? Might have to rent something 'til I find one... If I don't pick it up I'll lead you to it ;)

I'm also looking at an '84 4X to add to my arsenal... So I'm flopping on the idea... But maybe both would work... Get a trailer to haul either or...

I gotcha covered ;)

I think you might have to get it green-stickered, I'm not too sure about buggies either. Anyways that'd be a fun little toy to have around. And 2 thumbs up for VW power! :kewl:

if all you had was a bill of sale then you would have to go to the dmv and apply to register a "homemade vehical" they would require a visiual inspection to check not only if it has functioning street legal necesseties(sp?) if you go that route or i believe you would still have to pass a safty inspection to recieve a green sticker, which is just the off road permit like a dirt bike. The dmv would also run the serial #'s off the engine and it might help your cause to have them all(whatever you can find) written down when you get there. i would recomend trying to get a plate on it so you could have it insured, and take it to get milk:D but i dont know if thats possible...Good luck and those little buggies are a lot of fun!

I'm sure there will be some tech added and it has to do with the desert. And you'll wheel it in the desert...so I thought it belonged here :) Still a cool little buggy though. Definitely has some potential.

I doubt you could get this to be street legal in this state... Arizona... yeah...

Yeah the inurance thing... Hmmm... how do you get insurance for a green stick rig... Fark I didn't think about the liabilty of an accident in the dirt and someone wanting to sue the shiat outta me...

My mom lives in AZ... maybe I'll put it in her name and have her register it in her state... and just wheel the thing when I go visit her... Hmmm...

You can get insurance on any off-road rig, red sticker or green sticker, as long as it's registered to you.

This is true, however If you can reg it in AZ and have the plate, its worth it for alot of reasons. Including increasing its value!

Too bad you guys live in Cali. I've been building a 4 seat street legal rail here in Texas complete with a 1600 cc VW screamer with counterbalanced crank, solid rockers, and all brand new equipment with a Weber Progressive 2bbrl.
