The Sloppytaco is near completion. Here are a few pics of sas build. I changed out the front shackles today, put the 285's on all fours, and the truck is almost level. I just have the drag link, bleed the brakes, grease fittings, drill out new holes in the tube for the rear shocks, driveshaft, and 6* shims for the front left to do. If the shims correct the pinion angle I am going to have the knuckles rotated again. Would it be best to rotate the spring perches at the same time or keep the shims?

AWSOME!!!!!
If Ure rotating the knuckles again then rotate the perches & get rid of the shims so U don't spit them out at the WORST POSSIBLE TIME.

Looks good man. Sorry I've been scarce lately. I agree with Ed on the rotating of the perches rather than using shims. Let me know if you need any help/ advice. Take care of that rig, she's looking good.

A few new pictures. We completed it enough to take it out of the garage for a test drive and bam! The shackles folded over and we are back to ground zero. Any suggestions are welcome.

I'm baffled as to why that would happen. You got any idea, why?

To steep of angle...

I'm going to move them back around 2 to 3 inches and see what that does. The strange part is that when the springs were at full droop and the shackles were almost at 90*. Although this issue is temporary the pinion angle is almost perfect.

At full droop they should be pointed like 20-30 degrees forward. With the springs broken in they should be pointing like 15-25 degrees back.

The shackle hanger has been tacked on and the truck is sitting on its own weight with a shackle angle of 22*. I am not sure if the springs have completely settled. Will they settle more after the truck is driven or should I move the hanger forward?

I think that angle looks good as a ride height, angle. How did you manage to actually move the hanger back, compared to where it was the first time?

If those where new springs I would move the hanger back a litte more. New springs will take a little bit to break in. I wouldnt go over 10* with a new set of springs. That way after they settle you should be at 15-20*.

Yeah guys the new angle is great to see! A lot better than the folded shackles on the first try.
Alan, we added a 3/8's plate to the bottom of the frame for a strong mounting surface. The inside frame rail was also plated with 3/8's. Now it's time to make gussets.
Marshall, I thought so too, but the shocks worked fine in that position when they were in the rear. I have heard that they work better in the position I have them mounted.
Kyle, when I went to check full droop the passenger tacks broke today and I haven't had time to tack it back on.
James, thanks for the info. Do you think they are going to settle that much even though the truck has sat on it's own weight for a while?

It will settle more cause you dont have the bouncing and stuff like you would if you had been driving it.

The broken tack is fixed and unsprung with a -8* shackle angle.

No, but the truck drove around the neighborhood.
The brakes and an alignment are next on the list to do. When the truck is turned off the brake petal holds strong. When the truck is turned on the brake petal goes right to the floor. We have blead the lines and master cylinder. Is the toyota master cylinder and booster unable to keep up with the waggy calipers or is the booster going bad?
I'll have to get some shots of it during the day and with a bath.

did it start under it's own power or did you have to jump it off? gas was probably $2.75, last time you put any in it.

No, I've had to jump it the last few times. Yeah, gas was most likely that high.
