Jeff's beautiful 2002 rig we originally built w/ AOR orbit eyes, then front 14" fox coilovers, now is sporting some 14" SAWS as well... He also exo'd it, tried an inverted radius arm setup, installed Hendrix 'X' joints on the radius arm mounts, fabbed up an even smaller bed, shortened up the wheel base, and has already put it on its lid. it drives, but is a bit too flexy for the street w/ out the swaybars on.
got pics, but cant post anything unless someone changes the 19.5kb limit.

Hey Chuck, a white 04 SAS truck came into my work today and had your guys' bumpers/sliders on it. I was wondering if you did the swap for him? This was in San Luis Obispo.

I'm pretty sure that kid brought his brand new 04 up to Chuck and AJ, handed them a wad of money and they completely built it up for him. Did it have 36" IROKs?
PS- How have you been???

just curious, what your opinion of the orbit eyes setup compared to a coilover setup??
what advantages and disadvantages to each.
Are his orbit eyes on both ends of the leafs?

yup, it was bone stock '04 w/ 2000 miles on it. Handed AJ a very large chunk of money and he completely sourced and built the truck. Must help when mommy and daddy had a ferrari in the garage when he drove it down to SLO to drop it off...

the orbit eyes run on both ends on the rear springs, and on the fronts only on the front springs. the springs are very $$$$, but ride awsome on the street. much better than any waggy spring out there. they also flex like crazy and could max out 14" fox shocks.
for normal wheeling the AOR's are perfectly fine. Those of us who go coilovers also have a habit of hammering down over the rough stuff. A way of driving which leaf springs just suck at.
On the street leafs are fine, but coilovers can be dialed in for everything---valving, spring rate, ride height, etc...

Awesome work, Chuck!
Yikes! That is fooking sweet!
It looks like a single-triangulated rear, yet I can't see any limiting strap[s] or bumpstops.
Very nice work! Mine next, please!

I have orbits (AOR) in hard mount only both front and rear. I love the ride. As new setup I think it rides as nice or nicer then any other leaf sprung truck I've been in.
coilover stilltoo much $$$$ right now.

Hey Brian, that is the truck I'm talking about. Blew me away it only had 5k miles on it! Things are good down here on the Central Coast, but us locals have been ready for some wheeling. Time to come up and visit you guys I guess :)

we didnt build the rest of the rig, jeff did himself. the cage is 2" mild steel, the links are 2"x.375 i believe, tires are 39" irok's, front coilovers are 2.5"x14" SAWS, rear coilovers are 2"x14" fox. The truck drives, but jeff is still playing w/ the geometry so the flex is equal. right now it is unbalanced and his rear flexes a hell of a lot more than the front. he needs to bring the rear coilovers out on the top mounts so they are not inboarded.
he has played w/ the front even more and is now trying a 3 link setup (he doesnt work much--just plays w/ his truck).

After the 1st SAS w/ AOR's it drove awsome, 2nd swap to coilovers and it drove even better. According to Jeff, now its a bit scary on the street since it has sooooo much flex = body roll. i snagged him a fatty swaybar for it, so once that is on, it should handle pretty good on the street. however, his plans are to make it a trailer rig as he just picked up a new Ford F250 to tow it.

well when his ass is out on the trail with out cell phone reception or cant get intouch with any one with a cb i guess he will have no other option but to LEARN :D or maybe the people he rides with will teach him if anything happens. I can build motors, rebuilt tranny's, bla bla bla, but i want to learn to do gear setup's, that is something ive played with but dont completly understand.

no pre runner, just a brand new '04.
have another SAS in the shop now getting AOR poly eye's all around, and a FJ project coming in on sunday that is undergoing a full upgrade to bling status.
