I mean Gold Rush Days, in my hometown of Wickenburg, Az this weekend. Good times and great food. If any of you like Indian Fry Bread, this is the place to get it. There is a pretty silly parade on Saturday, but is still good family fun. There is also a carnival with lots of rides, and as always, there is good fun to be had watching the carny folk :missingto . I am headed up to visit my folks. Let me know if you plan on going, might meet up for some Indian Bread.
My Dad and I participate in the gold panning event every year. Three years ago I took second with a $400 payout. There is a family from California that is there every year that we always compete with. You get a 1/2 full, 5 gallon bucket of sand dumped into your pan, (pretty big pans) and then 5 pieces of gold are dropped on top of the sand pile. Each piece of gold is about the size of the lead on the tip of a pencel. You stand over a big trough of water and pan it out until all five pieces are visible in the bottom of the pan. You have to be able to see all five pieces without moving any material or sticking your fingers in the pan. Obviously a timed event, and my best time was 29 seconds. I got a silly little trophy and a silver medal. My Dad took it one year with 19 seconds.
Anyway, just thought I would share this with you guys.
