Well, you knew that would come, one day. I mean trail 5 in not going to be an "easy" trail in another year. Erosion is eating up all the trails. What do you suggest other than starting a civil war? With the passion that a few of us have for our hobby, we are certainly capable of doing our part to make things better.
Kyle, why don't you post this on the other boards that you are a member of? Old School, Southern Jeeps, etc.

I think a good first step would be to find out the intentions and plans of the USFS. Perhaps a meeting could be set up between some of the club presidents (or their designees) and the Tellico Administrator or District Ranger. We can only make plans after we completely understand the issues faced by the forest service and understand their long term and short term goals.

Im really trying to not go into a long rant. I dont have the time.
I think we as wheeler's (at least this bunch here on the board) do "enough". I dont mind doing more, I would like to do more.
BUT, there is nothing we can do to get these lame ass tree huggers (who have nothing better to do than try and tell others what to do) off our backs.
Everything we are doing is only delaying any loss of land. There is nothing we can do to "fix" the situation and permanently get these people off our backs. This is, and will always be, a neverending fight.
When they complain, we react to their demands and they shut-up, do some more biased research and come back with more restrictive demands. Over and over again.
Its the same way with gun laws, immigration, all political issues. The liberals are brainless idiots that just like to complain and spend our tax money.
The way society is today, we use the court system to work problems out and we all know whoever has the most money, not sense, wins. Im sick of that. I say we kill'em all. Thats what civil wars are, when one side gets sick of losing, having no chance of winning, having all their resources sucked out of them by the enemy by a "donthaveanfingwordforit" legal system.
Did they give $hit about all the beautiful land and all the creatures homes they destroyed and all the trees they cut down as Atlanta developed over the past decades? ITS STILL DEVELOPING! HELLO. WHO CANT SEE THAT?
How many trees disappear everyday in the suburbs outside Altanta? There a acres upon acres of beautiful habitat being developed everyday. Why is it Tellico? Why is it public hunting lands? Why its it the land outdoor recreationalists use that is being targeted? All undeveloped land is precious IMO. At least we arent trying to cut down every tree in Tellico, build 8 homes per acre, and put 4 lane highways all over the place.
I 100% guarantee if it was one of those tree huggers private land and someone wanted to pay them $40 million for every tree to be cut down for an airport to be built, they wouldnt think twice about signing it over.
There is a 5,000 acre Public Hunting Area in SW GA that is being sold by the timber company that owns it. Plans to put 22,000 homes on those 5,000 acres. Do the math. Do you see anyone trying to stop that? I dont hear any complaining.
My fingers are tired. Bye.
One more thing, just think of all the land they could buy and preserve with the billions they spend trying to prevent others from enjoying the little bit of land we do have.
They could have easily bought Paragon x100 and put a fence around it. But no, they'd rather throw that money away in court and make some f-stick lawyer rich. See what I mean by ignorant blind brainless f-wads?

I have seen alot of conflict over trail access and whatnot even before I was into wheeling. I also mountain bike alot and have been doing so for alot longer than I have been wheeling. Mountain bike trails get the same type of attention as OHV trails. Mainly it's the erosion thing.
Building trail systems is tricky. There is a fine balance between what the users want and protecting the resource you are using. I have seen many trails that I loved closed due to various issues. The key is replacing those trails with new trails that are designed to provide the user with the same level of enjoyment, but that are much more sustainable. I think stuff like the trail 5 bridge is a good thing. Maintaining or closing trails for repairs are good things, as long as others are opened to provide the user with another alternative. Have you guys ever looked around Tellcio at how many overgrown trails are out there? There are plenty of opportunites for new trails to replace those that need to be restored.
The environmental guys are right, something eventually needs to be done. It's how that something is gone about that will determine the future of Tellico. By the looks of it the local clubs are making progress toward maintaining Tellico as the OHV destination of the south, I only wish I was closer to help in the efforts.

We're starting to see it in our neck of the woods. Old farmsteads lay waste, grown over because the next generation doesn't want to work it. Why? Because agriculture (in this area) is worth less than the land, among other reasons. So what do they do? Sell out to the highest bidder. And who is that bidder? The developer who is slap happy to pay $10; $15; $20+ grand an acer to turn around and double his money in a subdivison. You can't stop it either. Once that ball starts rolling you have to get out of the way. The developer knows how to play the game and go by the EPA rules. He knows how to influence the system, who to promote into office that will benifite his business. What can you do? Buy up all the land? Who has those kinds of resources? Oh yea, the developer....
Not that the developer is a the bad guy, he's not. It just KILLS me to see the old country side developed. It's our capitalistic society in motion, plain and simple. Oh yea; Ag and Mfg is being outsources to other countries at an alarming rate!!! Wanna see the future? Look at the past! We never learn!
I've never been to Tellico. Heard about it all my life. Hope to visit it one day. Bottom line is knowing the system, being involved and influencing those in authority in a way that benifits the citizen.
Believe me, civil war has crossed my mind, on issues more important than land use. However, our country's forefathers (north or south) would roll over in their grave if they knew their progeny we're at arms all over again. Certainly not the answer. (I've wondered what our nation would look like though, if the south had won....we'll never know).
Just the tip of the ice berg....
