View Full Version : Where to 'Wheel??
Hello All!
'Reppin Zanesville here. Where does everyone go to get dirty? I am totally ignorant relating to OHV areas in Ohio. My friends and I usualy tear it up on our own property, but I'm interested to know about other "public" sites available. I don't have a purpose built rig. (still mostly stock), and don't want to tear up too much stuff on it...are there any trail systems that are friendly to a "stock" 4x4? Any info greatly appreciated!!
Thanks

you would be fine on any of our stock friendly runs (which is mostly wellsville)
check out all the posts in the trail review... they state if the location is stocker friendly ;o)

Easy does it! Don't make me order up a confederate march crossing north of the Potomac River! Too bad William Sherman (who was born in Lancaster, OH I might add) stopped in North Carolina and didn't continue on up burning the southern portions of Maryland!

I think he was trying to imply something else by saying you're from Ohio? I'm sure North Carolina is a little more backwoods than Ohio would ever dream of being. Wonder why he hasn't said anything to me yet?

You may also want to PM Bradleyem (check spelling) He's in Columbus and can let you in on some of the areas closer to you there in Zanesville. He knew of some area down in north Perry County near Somerset. It may be ATV's only, but it's worth a look. Wellsville looks like a bit of a hike for an afternoon?

If he's in Zanesville, then his best bet is definately Painted Rock. It's only about 15 minutes away for him. There used to be some good places in and around Columbus, but the status of them is kinda' up in the air. I know that at least 2 of the places have been closed down. (Rt 23 south of Scioto Downs and Rt 23 behind K-Mart at 270) I know that the parks service took over part of Beacon, but I still see trucks coming out of some of the entrances, and some of the entrances are no longer blocked off. I have been researching who the property owners are so that I can attempt to contact them and find out for sure if we are still allowed on the private property. I'd like to do a weekend run at Painted Rock soon, so if anyone wants to go, let me know when will be a good time for you.

Painted Rock? Is that the area in north Perry County that I've heard about?

Yep, that would be it. That's where we had the halloween run last year. Pretty good place to 'wheel, run by some really good guys. Its about 200 acres, ATVs and trucks allowed (although some of the trails are pretty tight, so full size rigs may have a problem). They also have a decent mud pit area to play in.
