replace yes or no

Ok this is the shaft and roller bearing from my front diff that is bad.The bearing that had came apart goes on the end of the large shaft then there is a smaller shaft that the larger shaft and bearing goes into.On the end of the larger shaft where the bearing goes the shaft is all scored up.At first Bob told me he would replace the shaft then he said we could just use emery cloth on it.He said he measured it and it was ok.I'm sure that shaft will not be cheap but i would rather just change it now if need be and avoid future problems.
So should i change it or just let it go?

looks bad... can you feel the groove?
if so, replace!
with bikes, often we could see a different color, but could not feel a difference (nor measure a big difference with a micrometer) but if we could feel, or measure a large difference, we would replace...

I'm gonna agree, if you can feel a ridge or groove I'd replace it just for piece of mind, if it's just discolored you might try cleaning it up. Not sure how expensive that part is or if it's worth the risk though

you can't feel a grove or ridge but you can feel a difference in texture

Would be nice to get a new one and see what it looks like. I was VERY surprised at the rough machined surface finish of Molly's birfileds...
