Hi,
I'm looking to get this swap done (not by me)... I have to see how much it will cost me. What are the parts that I will need to buy. Reading some info on it it seem that people have different opinions.
I have found a 96 3.4L at a low price for my 93 Truck (manual).
I know I'll need :
Engine
ECU
Wiring Harness
What else should I add...
I have read ...
Flywheel
Clutch
I read that putting downy headers is a good idea to simlpy stuff...!?

What are the differences between years of the 3.4L. Will it be easier to convert if I get an older model (ex: 1996) ??

Do you think the 350 swap would be cheaper/easier? Curious, cuz I'd much rather have a big V8...

hmm well I like the idea of sticking with Toyota. And that the motor is cheaper on gas then the 3L.
It's my everyday car to go to work. I just bought the 96 3.4L
Let's see how hard it will be to find the rest of the stuff.

Well, it really all depends on what set up you're going to be using. You can get a long block 350 and like a turbo 350 for about $2200. Then of course you'll need a t-case which I don't know a round-a-bout price on, probably around $400 used. Then of course, a carb setup is cheapest, you can buy the engine mounts pre-fabbed, so no guess work is involved there which is a huge plus. After the bodylift, engine mounts, engine, trans, and t-case, if you do the work yourself, you're probably lookin at around $2500-$3000. It probably ain't gonna get much cheaper than that, unless you've gotta good hook-up. It's a much simpler setup, but at the same time you're gonna spend just as much and do just as much if not more work. You'll have more power though, so that's a factor to consider. You can get 1 of those long block 350's from any Chevy dealer for around $1500.

You should be able to, if it's the same ECM as in manual or auto trans...

That's 1 of the main reasons, plus financial reasons, that I gave up on the 3.4 swap. It's a bitch to find a harness. If I were you, I'd call somewhere like TAP Recycling, they're a pain in the ass, but they've gotta good selection of parts. Whatever you do, don't use a place called Toyota Truck Parts out of Rancho Cordova, Ca. They screwed me outta $400 and I've yet to see a refund. Good luck, Wes

well, I could be wrong, but I think the only difference is the extra o2 sensor. I could be wrong though. Ask Gadget, I'm sure he knows.

no shit? that's for the entire engine harness? I recieved figures here around Mississippi that it would be about $1500. That's a shitload cheaper than what I was told.

hehe I hope the guy was not mistaken. I said the wiring harness for the engine.
I found one in a scrap yard in Quebec and it's 260 CAN $. But it's a 95. I didn't know they made 3.4L in 95 !?!?

I got that answer from a scrap yard :
95 is a competely different vehicle engine and harness
interchange is one year only on the harness, engine code is 5vsfe,please call me toll free @

What does this mean... interchange is one year. Because he said he had a 95 harness.

Well I talked to that company and they had a harness coming out of a 96 3.4L 4x4 manual with A/C and ABS. Wasnt cheap at all but I'm happy its all done.

The 3.4 was introduced in 95.5 Tacomas. Also available in 95 T100's I think.
A small number of early 95 minis had the 3.4 in them. These are very very rare and I have only seen one in person. Real funny the look on the service writers face when the blank stare comes over their faces.
If you don't have the motor already, try and get a 97+. I believe this is the best motor upgrade you can do at this point, until the 4.0's are more available.
A Socal member is parting out his entire truck and may have the 3.4 still available?
Screw putting some Chevy crap in your rig!

thanks for the advice. I already got a 96 engine. I just found the harness also for it. So I'm good to go. I'm crossing my fingers everything will go well. I will install a nice set of headers and a K&N air filter. Should have a nice sound and some power.
I'll post some pics during and after the install if you all want.

Well, it's too late to tell you this now, but whenever someone talks about doing this swap I tell them to get the whole rig. Buy a wrecked taco or runner, and then you have all the parts, right there.
It took me forever to find all the parts needed for mine. (granted, it was a 2003) But luckily it did come with the complete engine harness. The hardest parts for me were the body side of the harness that plugs into the ecu. It took me a very long time to find those. These are the ones that go from the ecu to the dash, etc.
If you need any more help or advice let me know. I finished mine in september, so most of it is still fresh in my mind.
Eric
