Thanks too Rojodiable for spending 17 hours til well past midnight for this build.
specs- 12" bilstein 7100's pretty much completely vertical.
all tabs brackets etc made by Rojodiablo with his butterknife.
The difference between having 1 blown stock length shock and one missing shock to this is just phonomenal.:D
stay tuned for the other end of the truck at the end of summer...

He will get the full 12" from the Bilstiens. Right now, as it sits empty, he has 7.5 up, 4.5 down. But load the truck, he will be at 6 and 6. Anybody need any LOUD grinding done tonight, or maybe hammer, compressor work??? Mikey, you ain't gonna believe this shit... we have ANOTHER Polka band playing tonight. I may kill someone, or myself. I can't take it.

We'll my brother and i got the pass. side mounted up last night. It went smoothly for a 1st time deal, the other side should be really easy as soon as my parts come in.
I really hop i am actually putting it together correctly as i have no instructions:eek
had to mount the upper arm 3 times, kept switching them back and forthe but finally figured that the uniball cup was supposed to bu more or less horizontal, not at a crazy tilt.
My only concern seems to be with the UCA, in that the entire bolt is turning rather than the arm turning on the bolt??? But I'm gonna play with the other side tonight to see if i can get it right.
I'll put up some pics tonight or tommorrow

ummm......... maybe i'm confused, but i could have sworn that camburgs arms have that bumpstop strike pad in the FRONT... from the picture, looks like you have it in the rear...
:EDIT: maybe not, i'm realizing this is an older kit now. carry on. :D
miguelitro
10-18-2007, 10:28 AM
^ yup and that has caused me a bit of confusion as i have not found any pics of this kit installed. I first held up the other arm but nothing lined up si figured it had to be this one, and the bumpstop pad is directly under the rear pivot point so that iss where you mount the BS. The upper arms were figured out by puttin one on putting the other on and then back to this one. the othher uca would have had the uniball cup at an XXXtreme angle:D If i had to do it over again i would have gotten direction:D

I plan about four days. First off I have all of the parts I think I will need ready to go. Second, my truck has no rust. And third, there are no wildfires here to smoke/ ash me out. (I hope)
And I would imagine that if you were here in Vegas the last thing on your mind would be working on my truck (TBH!)

it WOULD have taken me a full day, but i spent more than half a day trying to figure out how to get a stupid alignment cam out of the stock lower arm so i could finish taking it off. I ended up just cutting it, beating it, drilling it. DEFINITELY keep some of those things on hand, cuz you will probably destroy at least one. glad you finally got the kit on. when are you puttin bumps on it?

I am with you miguel it took me a solid 3 weeks but in my defence i was never able to spend a full day on the thing. I also had plenty of problems with the cams but I doubt it has anything to do with the 175k on them. Is the trash can in the back for the kegs to keep cold or for the stock parts?

SAW does sell coilovers with resi's. Camburg recommends a specific coilover for their kit that has resi's. I'm assuming those are the coilovers camburg recommends running with the kit.

Sick....now go wheel it!! wait.....what about the core support?
I'm no where near being ready to wheel this thing.
on the list is-
limit straps and bumps(need to buy bumps and cans and head up to rojodiablo's house to have em welded up)
core support and engine cage
motor mounts
tranny mount(the rubber part of mine is disintegrating)
driveshaft carrier bearing and probly u joints
fix 3rd member seal while i'm at it
to the other's- it would not have taken me so long but i had to wait for parts, didnt want to lay in a thick layer of ash all over the driveway, had to go to a motorcycle race, participate in the general debauchery of living in PB, the surf got good, I dont DD my truck....blah blah blah-lots of excuses
:D
just need it drivable to get the scooter out to go ride, but when its all buttoned up I'll be back out wheeling, just need it DONE by june 15 for summer vacation in southern baja.

These are the Saws that you run with the camburg kit, they have a few internal differences from the shocks you could run with a TC kit for example. Camburg also has Kings available for their kits now. This is not the same as a replacement CO. I guess i could have taken a pic of these next to my old hoes but didnt.
I believe that FOA sells a replacment CO with a res though.

I installed my kit Thurs. and Fri. and got it aligned today. Total job took me a little less than two days to do everything including straps by myself. I still need to install the airbumps and fine tune everything but that will have to wait until next week.
I took it to the local tire chain for an aligmnent today. I called first to avoid wasting my time and they said "Tundra width? sure bring it on down". Three hours later the guy was like "well, I got it pretty close". Good enough I said, I will take it to a speacialty shop after I get all the bugs worked out down the road. Its pretty decent now, put 20 miles on it so far. I keep hitting the bots-dots in the center median b/c Im not used to the wider track. I love it so far, I was worried that it would'nt be any better than my DR setup, or would ride harsh. However, rides smoother on the road than before. I hav'nt off roaded it yet but Im sure it will outperform my former '9" of fury'. It does seem like there is a little more effort needed to steer it, but maybe thats just my imagination.

so how does the deaver setup keep up with the front now that it is long traveled. i took my truck out to barstow and it was amazing the night and day difference there was between the old d-hoe setup and my new long travel setup.now the rear of my truck is lagging, i wish there was a way to enhance the 7-leaf deaver and donahoe shock setup, without having to go full blown long travel in the rear?
shorty2305
11-10-2007, 08:45 PM
not much you can do with stock length deavers. Bypasses would help it keep up. But they cost as much as a 62" setup. Start saving. lol. Funny how that's always the answer. Or max out credit cards. Either way, it's hard on the pocketbook. And it's a given that you get hell for spending money....:wife:

it funny how i just got done paying off my credit cards and now i want to run them back up.but it sucked working 2 jobs and putting in 80 hrs a week between the two, to just run them back up.i'll just start peicing together the rear.i was also thinking of putting some saw bumps out back,i wans't able to get my front hyd bumps installed, i am sure that would have smoothed out the front suspension nicely.what is your ride hieght set at, i have about a 1 1/2" of threads showing and it seemed the spring rate may have been too soft.

11-11-2007, 09:10 AM
^Barstool is a good 3 hour drive for me so if i go that way it is to ride some wicked national d 37 courses in lucern with my jackrabbit friends:D
I might do some hydro's in the rear eventually, after getting the front squared away, but i have some big softies back there that really soak up the big hits. i would say that over the summer in baja i launched the truck at least 5 times over 3 feet high and 30 feet inlength while doing at least 50 and not lifting one bit and it really handled.
I am gonna worry about engine and cab cages befor any more suspension.

Did you grind down your steering stops?
I got another full turn and a half on my steering wheel from grinding them down. It's not such a bitch to park anymore.
no need to, i was just amazed how tight my radius is now that the 33's dont hit the frame befor full lock.
Lookin' good... guess this means you won't be crawlin' around with me much in the future... :(
Did you ever take yer junk thru the Squeeze on Pinyon ?.. Most likely won't squeeze thru now :dunno:
Thought about doing this shit long ago... But I'd just roll my junk... LOL
I'll eventually SAS my junk and keep the pace to a krawl... ;)
yeah, problynot gonna make the squeaze now, glad i had done it a few times. i plan on rock crawlin the heck out of this kit:D come on, whats better than a fully caged, long travel rock crawler with surf board racks! that the plan anyways!
