I'm strugling with myself if I want to bob the bed of my truck. Cargo space vs. departure angle. Would it effect future mods as in 64 in. springs. Don't want to do something as major as that and regret it. Gimmie some thoughts please.

Well, I am going to do this, just a matter of when (mainly as soon as I am confident enough to weld this thin sheet metal back together without blowing holes in it).

The rear spring hanger’s stays in the same spot so it should not affect a Chevy swap.

Bed space is a different issue, I think you end up losing like 12 cube feet, if you cut 13" off.

Spare tire location needs to go too, from what i can tell.

Do you have a hitch? I think if you tow much of anything you would not want to do this. Unless you figure out how to make a suitable hitch mount.

And from looking at it you will also need to clearance the rear lower bedsides, in order to get the tail to line back up.

My bed is line-x'd too, so I run into that issue having to get it fixed when done.

Good luck man, let us know what you decide.

I wheeled slaughterhouse with this guy last week (this is the best best pic I have...). 1 foot chopped off the end of his bed. No alterations to the suspension, but like mythica said, you'll probably have to carry the spare tire in the bed.

Hey Jacket,

How did that guy do his lower bed sides. did he clearance them? I cant tell for sure in that pict.

I talked to a friend of my dads that works at Aurthers body shop and he said that he could get the lower bed sides to match up, but it was going to take some work. He knew what i wanted it for and told me that i would not want to pay him what it would cost, so i didnt even ask.

It kinda looks like that guy just chopped it and slapped it back on there with un even bedsides.

You know - I didn't ask a ton of questions, since I'm already at a 5' bed and won't really go alot smaller. I remember he said he had a local shop do the work - maybe Irbis or Slee?

I cut about 13" out of mine. I haven't had time to finish it though. I still need to weld the whole inside and paint it.

My bed is line-x'd. I might get a can of DIY be liner and paint it on where the line-x has been grinded off.

For the spare, I keep it in the back most of the time but when I need the space It can still hook up to the stock cable underneath. It probably won't fit when I put a bumper on though. I'd like to make a new tire carrier/tail gate which would give back some of the lost cargo space.

I didn't clearance the bed sides yet. I think I could get the 2 parts to blend fairly good but I might just end up cutting it up more since I have to make a new bumper anyway.
Here's some pics:

Are you going to chop the frame back to where it is even with the bed?

Don't do it!!!

Just kidding, Looks great. That should help keep the tail off the ground.

I like the looks of it!

I've already chopped the bottom of the fenders. Makeshift bumper. Mounted the spare and highlift in the bed. No aftermarket cheesy U-Haul receivers on my truck! I will be chopping the frame back where necessary.

I think it really turned out well. Just kept it in line with the bottom of the tailgate and it looks clean.

How do you cleanly keep the fender brow lines? Or do they end before the forwardmost cut?

Sorry, forgot about this thread. I chopped it off to where the shackles attach to the frame. It's a little past the tail gate but should be fine with a new bumper. Perhaps if I ever do a linked susp. in the back then I could chop more off.

The lines end just slightly rearward of the front cut on mine but feathering them to an end shouldn't be any big deal.
