It's just outside of Alma...at that Resevoir....oh shit, I forget which resevoir. Anyway, anybody ever go up there? It's a really good time. I'm not sure just how difficult it is for a 4x4, but I know it's a bitch on a dirt bike...well a bitchin' good time, because of the challenge anyway. There's some pretty susbstantial rock crawling, a couple steeps, and a bunch of loose watermellon sized boulders.

Anyway, I might go there for my birthday, next weekend. I would be on a dirt bike. Yes, one of those annoying freakin' things that buzz around you at 40 mph on the trail....I see the looks 4x4 people give me....hahaha:rolleyes: It would be fun to meet some TTORA people, if anybody happened to be in the area. I would take my Taco, but there's no way in hell it's getting up to the top of Wheeler Lake in stock form.

I have a line on some SAW coilovers, and sliders for a decent price....I may start moddin' soon.

Here is a little more info:

I guess it's rated as a 9....

And a pic of the top:

That was me a couple years ago. Yes, we wear helmets....it's just hanging on the handlebars.

Oh and speaking of lifts, I lifted that bike another 3", after this pic was taken...

Believe me, it's not a 9. More like a 5-7. I walked it no problem several years ago in a stock 85 Toyota truck with no power steering in the rain. It's an easy trail.

Here's a trail description

Here's a recent trip report from some of the guys in my 4-wheel drive club

I just got back from there this weekend.

It is a fun trail.

If you take the by passes a stock truck can make it. But there are some good optional obstacles that make the trail really fun.

I wouldnt call it an easy trail though. Moderate would be a better discription.

Oh yeah and to the OP , keep that contraption on the trail. You are off the parking area in that pict. ;)

As I recall, the trail, and "parking area" was pretty unclear at the time. I can see what you mean in the pic, it looks like there was dirt towards the bottom of the pic that would be a better choice. I don't really remember much about it, but if it was off the trail, it was probably for the pic, and I probably pushed it in there, and pushed it back out. I'm very conscious of that kind of stuff. Unfortunately, some of the people I have ridden with don't seem to care....until I set them straight..... I just hate it when riders give more people more excuses to hate us.

Well it looks like I will be at Red Cone this weekend, instead.... I hope I can get up to Wheeler Lake at some point this year...

Denver Dave, why the hate mail? The way I see it all of the off roading thrill seekers should be on the same page. I not only enjoy the 4 wheeling in my taco but also the off roading of my CRF 250X on trails and track. Your anger toward two wheelers is disconcerting. Is there a possibility you might do something drastic to one of those two wheelers on the trail?

Quick Draw, in my experience people on dirt bikes and ATVs are the ones doling out the dirty looks. Especially when they're on family outings. They're particularly cantankerous with kids in tow. At least the children riders use common sense.
The dirt bike and ATV riders last weekend at Moody Hill/Crystal Mountain were downright rude, and stupid to boot.

I don't ride dirt, but I'd like to. I've got a brand new KLR650 that's never seen dirt. It's too tall and heavy for a dedicated dirt bike, but I'm sure some of the trails we run in trucks would be fun on the Kawie.

If I get some appropriate protective gear Quick Draw, maybe we can do some riding. All the gear I have right now is more suited for street use.

To continuge off topic, I agree.

I'm sure there are nice dirtbike riders out there, but i've never met one on the trail. They are always trying to zip by and are never polite. Most of the "zip-bys" are usually dangerous, and leave me fearing for damage to my vehicle.

I'm sure you guys are good, but most of your compatriots are not.

Would you guys like to join a friend and I on Mosquito Pass, and other areas around Alma this Sunday? On bikes, of course, but maybe we can do a little wheeling, if you all come. Hell, maybe we'll hit Wheeler Lake...

Spindle, if you can see the faces of riders, they're usually not that smart anyway... Guys with t-shirts and sandals on those damn quads make me angry...

I agree about the guys on Moody/Crystal. The first group blazed a new trail, just to get by us. Then the second group with the quad pretty much expected me to roll my truck over so that they could get by. If he would have had the patience to wait another 30 seconds, I could have moved the truck clear out of his way. Actually, Spindle, I believe your hand prints are on the roof of my truck, from stabalizing it, when I was tilted way over to one side on 3 wheels... (I still haven't washed it! ).

I'm really big on being responsible on the bikes. It is kind of easy to be irresponsible with such a nice power to weight ratio, but resisting that urge is important to keep trails open.

Yeah, I may not know much about trail riding, but I know about common sense, and that ATV rider was Stupid!.

don't think you can pin it on any group just the people who don't get on the trail much and are discourteous in general. I was at keystone going downhill biking with a group of paraplegic riders and got flipped of after we stopped to let some other riders by.

That's...well, fuck. That's just wrong. The people I've met there so far seem pretty nice, and honestly--no dogging on paraplegic riders, understand--I'm not visualizing the para crew on more than the blues and maybe a couple blacks, and those trails are nothing to brag about if you're fully abled on a DH ride. Break their damn fingers off next time, and tell them I ride that shit on my hardtail.

Oh well. Some people's kids...
