Hey guys! So my truck has been at Giant Motorsports (www.giantmotorsports.com) for the past few weeks getting caged. It is obviously NOT done, and most of what they have in there is currently a rough draft, with tweaks and whatnot still being done, so if you spot a "suspect" gap between two tubes or something, don't even waste your/my time pointing it out. Geoff, Cho, and Shane know their shit, and anybody who says otherwise is just plain wrong.

On to the good stuff!

Haha...the thank yous come when the cab is complete...and I DO want to point out that I thanked you tremendously in my front end build up threads! (I know you were kidding)

What's up on your end, Dave? You get to drive it today?

Hellz yeah for a little around the block. Getting my shocks charged up by Dezert Nation tomorrow and hopefully bolt in my bedsides or just do that before getting them charged really haven't decided. Sick pillar!!!!! :D

well, i don't want to speak for geoff, but he quoted me $1,500 for the cab cage EXCLUDING seat mounts. the cage includes everything you see in the pictures, plus a tube from a pillar to a pillar, *I THINK* a tube from b pillar to b pillar, a horizontal bar beneath the rear window line, and a single diagonal from one corner of the c-pillar/halo to the floor.

i'm having him do a second diagonal so i'll have the X on the back wall, and while we haven't really discussed how much that'll run, i'd be surprised if it was THAT expensive.

they also tack sheet metal over all the holes and caulk them in

geoff, cho, and shane are three REALLY awesome guys and i can't recommend giant highly enough

1500 and save my head or spend cheap and have a crushed head

if you figure ~2500 you'd get the X, seats, and mounting probably

(that's looking like what my total will be, but again, i cannot say for sure until i've signed the invoice at the end of the project, so please do NOT quote me on this until i've said finally what i paid)

ps - lemme see some pics of your bumper :D

I'm hoping maybe you can elaborate? I'm not too well educated in cage design, so if there is a problem then I'm hoping you can explain it to me. :D

I could see the back half of the cab cage as being a potential problem. I've never seen the B pillar in that spot before, on any extra cab cage. It needs to be a lot closer to the door, where the seat belt is. Then where the C-Pillar tube has that bend it in, there is no reason to have that, and it'll be a weak point if you ever take a hard hit on the roof. Then the diagonal bar below that, it should hit the same spot on the tube as the C-Pillar does. Cage doesn't look to be tucked into the roof at all. Are you sure Geoff is building the cage? That doesn't look like work he would do.

Also did they remove the dash at all while building the cage? What tubes go across the truck in the front? I know there will be one that goes across along the roof from a-pillar to a-pillar (hopefully), but there also needs to be one added behind the dash, along the bottom of the windshield. Think about if you took a really hard hit from the side of the cab, what is there to keep the from of the cab cage from shifting besides that one tube along the roof? Look at it like a camping canopy, if you stand on one side and push the canopy's roof it'll sway easily from side to side. Now if you had a bar halfway down the middle connecting all 4 pillars it wouldn't sway. Did any of that just make sense?

Not trying to knock the work, but I'm assuming since you are caging your truck its going to be built up and used a lot. You want to make sure if you roll your truck you're going to be safe.

This is the kind of response I appreciate. :) I'll raise these issues with the guys the next time I speak with them. I have no problem with people criticizing what they see AT ALL, but it just helps me more if people can elaborate. (Like DezertTacoma just did)

Just asking why not pull the dash and run the cage behind it? Now if you have an issue that you need to pull the dash for it will be very difficult, and what is done to the truck suspension wise?

Hey guys! Not avoiding this thread, but I JUST started at Chapman (last week was orientation) so I've been SUPER busy. I'll try and get pics up as soon as I can. I had a couple long and serious conversations with Geoff prior to completion of the cage and I'm perfectly happy and confident with how everything worked out.

Pics to come as soon as I have time!

truck goes into richer racing for dash (probably/hopefully), cab cage, and bed cage with deavers, 16" kings, fuel cell, spare(s)

i'm hoping to avoid a lot of drama as a result of this, but i will say that i appreciate everybody's input on this subject and that you were all looking out for me

thanks

Damn that sucks. You waited all that time, and now this. If you dont mind answering, did they not want to finish the cage? Or was the finished cage just not at all what you were expecting?

i don't really want to get in to it because i really don't feel like instigating a huge ruckus, but let me say that where i wanted the finished product to be and where it ended up were drastically different

yeah that 4runner is unbelievable (i saw it person when i was at the shop) and i spent like 35 minutes bugging johnny (who is always super nice/cool to talk to as some of you know) at the expo, while looking at the luxury f150

i wanted to go to johnny originally, but it was hard to argue with the price difference...buuuuuuuuuuuuut lesson learned
