On the '04 you have to take the panel out from under the steering wheel. Then you should be able to see it.

I took the lower dash off and sure enough the wire was there. Unlpugged it and started the truck and turned it back off. Rolled down the window, set the alarm and waited for about thirty seconds. Reached in and unlocked the door - opened it and nothing :(
Tried several more times and nothing.
White wire - black stripe with white/yellowish plug taped to harness.
Wonder what gives?

Does anyone know if this works on other Toyotas (ie. Camrys, Siennas, etc.)?

I know is longer than 30sec for the alarm to set!

What model / year is your truck? It worked on my 04 xtra cab. I rolled the windows down after unplugging the wire waited 30 seconds then the alarm went off.

After retrying the mod and forgetting (DAYS) about it it works. The delay time must be way more than 30 sec - 5 minutes. I walked up to my truck and pulled up the knob and opened the door and it went off......Have to say I was a bit "ALARMED" LOL

I am new here, great info on this site. Just wanted to see if anyone has applied this to an '06. I looked under the steering column and to the left and found nothing. I was hoping to add this great mod.

I just did this mod yesterday to my 04, worked great. What puzzles me, is that I thought I already had a factory alarm?

My truck has:
1. a panic button on the remote
2. a window sticker that says Toyota Intrusion System
3. LED and glass break sensor on dash below the radio

But *before* this mod if I locked it with window down, waited, and then unlocked it, no alarm would sound. In fact the LED never even lit up.

*After* this mod, when I press the lock on the remote, the LED is solid for 30 secs, then started blinking. At this time when I unlock the door manually the truck starts honking.

I bought the truck used and don't have the original window sticker but I was always under the impression that it had an alarm.

At least I have it working now after disconnecting that wire...

FYI for all. I did this yesterday on my 04 DC. Worked great untill..................I tried to use the remote car starter later that night. It sets the alarm off, no key in the ignition . Oh well looks like I get to hook up those two famous wires back up today.

Does it only work with the window down? I don't understand why you have to roll the window down

Cruznlife1
03-16-2007, 10:46 AM
so you can test it by opening the door. you can also roll the window up, and arm the truck and sit inside of it till it arms.... when you put the key in the door it will disarm

This mod does not work on the '05. I am not 100% sure, but I do not believe they changed the build of the truck between '05 and '06, thus an additional wiring harness (which runs most of the width behind the dash) and an extra module is needed for the alarm.

Get this,
Ok since I am in Afgahan but still wanted the alarm while my wife is driving it I had her go out to look at it. Well my wife has this "problem" shel like to push buttons even if she has no clue what they go to. well she found one under there and pushed it before she ever found the plug for the wire. after her taking pic of it and explain it to me it seems like the first owner put in a kinda on/off button for the alarm, don't really know why someone would do that but they did. If anyone has any ideal let me know. The best reason I came up with was if they were working under the hood and had to disconnect the battery but then you could just use the remote.

I am thinking of undoing the "mod" he did and use the button for a kill switch.

Are there any disadvantages to this mod? It seems too good to be true! Why would Toyota put in an alarm like this but not use it as a selling point? What circuit is it really disconnecting?

I'd like to do this, but a bit skeered. :xcrybaby:

It seems that an '02 and an '04 are of nearly identical generations and should therefor be wired as such.
There is no harm in opening a few covers. If everything looks similar enough there is little chance that an attempt would end in disaster.

w/o the GBS and LED, its not the fully functioning alarm. While its better than nothing for us, Toyota can't sell it as an alarm w/o being complete (plus it gives them a way to make another grand for $20 in parts)

Ok guys... I have a 04 Quad Cab TRD Pre-Runner (not sure if that matters at all)... But I located a Single White Wire w/ Black Trace to the left of the steering collum, coming from the fuse box area.

Disconnected it, and whalla, Factory Alarm!

Thanks for the free mod write up folks, Happy Modding!

Anyone have this "alarm" feature stop working? This mod worked great for me. Even freaked out some friends who reached through the rolled down window to unlock the truck.

I noticed last week that this mod no longer works for me. The only thing I can think of that I did was put in a new battery this summer. I redid the connectors tonight and I'll disconnect them in the morning to see if the mod works again.

It would be nice to know about the 05+. I have a feeling it's something simple. I just got an 09 and when I was being 'packed' in the finance office. The guy looks at me saying "Do you want to keep the alarm." I said no. I just want the truck. He then told a guy to take the alarm out - I started laughing my ass off to the point that even they started laughing. They acted like they were removing the engine!

Look for hanging wires and just plug them back in. Hold long did it take them to "remove the alarm"?
