What was the First thing you did to your Tacoma after you bought it??

The first thing I did was my put in my Sony Xplod Headunit, and ditch the stock speakers and replace them with Sony Xplods.

Sony Xplod 510X headunit
Sony Xplod 500 Watt Amp
Two Sony Xplod 12's
Sony Xplod 3 way 6 1/2's all the way around

I bought a grill guard right off the bat, and took it off 6 weeks later after I'd started offroading. First real mod was a set of MT/R's.

first thing i bought was a cargo net to go across the bed so i wouldn't worry so much about shit flying out when driving the 7 hours back to school ... first "mod" was a drop in K&N high flow about 2 weeks after i bought my truck.

My first mod was an EGR Bugshield. It was the only aftermarket accessory I could find that they were making for the Tacoma in July of 1995. BTW, the bugshield is still on the rig (pictured below)...no cracks, chips or holes of any kind. Of coarse I try to keep my truck nice and "dent free"! :D

My first mod was to install a set of TRD fender flares, but it was first because I didn't have time to install the 3" cornfed and 32" BFGs I had waiting. Sadly, that's about as far as I've gotten. I still have an add-on cruise control that I still haven't installed.

The next was K&N and deckplate.
What's next, who knows? Gadgets turbo kit.

boylem002
04-10-2005, 10:03 PM
stereo system in sig was the first mod, then it was the deckplate, then the k&n drop in, then exhaust, week later it was suspension (front and rear), next is headers, after that will be wheels/tires, line-x, then I'll get the bumper(s) w/lights, um, maybe supercharger and fuel system upgrades, alternator (220amp), then I'll get more lift, oh, it never ends, it'll go on until I total it or it's stolen I guess.

I guess the first thing I did was put in my old CD player, but I don't consider that an off-roading mod. :)

The first major mod to my truck was rock sliders. Figured if I was hugging the ground, getting protection first would be a good investment.

Second day I bought my truck the seats came out so I could comfortably put in a Viper 350HV, 530T window modules, Sony mp3 head unit, sony equalizer, ppi 4 channel, 12" JL W6, and all the wiring (had fosgate wiring from my other car). Might as well knock it all out at once

I got the Toyota bug deflector for my 05 4X4, sit up kinda high off the hood!
Also got the auto ventshades, the kind that fit inside the window seal. They look great and do the job. Now if they would only come out with some speed goodies for the 05 2.7VVT. I'm ready for the S/C or even a chip, hell even a K-n-N intake or just air filter would be great. After market just has not come out with any thing yet, unless any of you know of something I've missed out there! :welder:

I don't see why it wouldn't.

kapelusprime
05-22-2005, 08:51 PM
Checked out the Thread with that mod. Only issue I'm wondering about for the 05, is the air box set up it's self. It's totally different than the 04 or early Tacos'. It's got the filter sandwiched between the two halfs of the filter box, as others do. Then there is a screen attached to the top half of the box it self. The mass air sensor is molded right in to the top half of the box; I gather the screen is there to protect the mass air. The filter is also different in position, than that of the air box in the pics on the deckplate mod thread.
instead of being vetical, the 05 fitler is horizontal in it's set up. So cutting that hole in the front of the box might work, but I'd have to scale down the size of the hole. I did a simular mod on my Ranger and it worked fine, only i just used the dremal and opened up the exsisting hole. I had problems with the mass air constently getting fouled, because it to was attached to the top half of the air box. This cofiguration lent it's self to exposure to mosture. I did use a K-n-N filter but the sesore is just so close to the filter. I imagine this is why Toyota has put that screen in the upper portion of the air box between the filter and sensor. I have not taken the air box completely out of the truck, I will this week end; I am interested to see how the mass air is set in side the plastic. I like the fact he used a marine style port, that could be closed. If you got any solutions, besides making the hole smaller and moving it farther down. I'm game! :welder:

K&N makes an FIPK for the 2.7 and you can get exhaust (I know gibson does because I have it and I think flowmaster makes one but i only heard for the DC)

First "mod" tinting and sub (which I already fried my amp... POS) just installed my exhaust and K&N FIPK last week but then again I've had the truck for 3 months now and been out on the sea for 2 so I've been saving.

Yeah the 2.5" pipes are great. They sound the best when they are submerged in some deep mud!!! The day after I got mine instaled I went mudding. If you look at the pic in my signature, for reference (the after pic of that trip), I was past the step rails in mud!
