View Full Version : considering side project

So I'm considering doing a little side project until I get the runner going or until I get another truck. I found an 88 toy van for 1200. It's 4wd, has 2 speed tcase, and it's a manual. Why you ask? well basically I want a dedicated camping rig. And it'd be fun to drive around with a lifted and locked toy van. My plans so far:
1.5" ball joint spacers
Crank the torsion bars
Rear lift
lockright in the rear
27" super swampers
depending on how the body is I may have some sliders made up (it's a unibody though)

hahaha... sounds like a plan! I think it'd be sweet. Plus, how many people can say they built and wheeled a minvan

cody calls 4runners mini-vans, but wheeling a van is different... but to each his own...

If it is mechanically sound for $1200 why not..Go for it. Might need a winch.
Cut it and you might be able to get your 31's on it:D

Wouldn't really help unless I had it running. Already took it to a shop that pretty much wouldn't touch it. I'll have to take it somewhere else I guess. But I still want to get rid of it and get a truck.

that last one does sound pretty nioce for a wheeler. if you already have 1200 to blow youll have enough $$ for the gears too thats a great start to a wheelin machine!!!! :}

It keeps blowing the efi fuse. It started out as just annoying, but now it wont even start.

That first one doesnt look too bad. Also found an 81 for 2500. I've already ditched the van idea (may come back to it some day, but not now). I think I'm gona keep an eye out for a cheap pre 85 truck. I already have all the parts to build it up, so I won't need anything special. Even a 22re IFS rig would be good. I like the idea of the 22r though, no stupid electrical crap to deal with. Just a stupid carb to deal with. Whatever I do I'm defenently gona take my time and find exactly I want instead of what I did with my 4runner (got the first one I found), although the v6 is realy the only thing I didn't like about it.

I had the same problem and it turned out that I had left the paperclip in the plug that needs to be shorted out. Once it was removed and the fuse replaced, problem solved!

After putting around with the 22R in my '81, it is a good motor but if you can find one with a 22RE, get it. My carb seems a little tempermental in some off camber spots...propane would be cool...

I don't think it's throwing any codes but I'll check.
