I gotta hear the good and bad of this. Im talking a leafpack of 1-2 leafs mounted to the top of the shackle for down travel. I saw it on one and the guy said its SWEET! I dont know if its worth doing tho. Please give feedback. My bed is off right now shocks were just redone Ubolt flip and leafpacks rebuilt so i dont have that stupid overload slide thing anymore. Im going to get parts today and will grab a leaf pack to cut up if its worth trying.

I think it's called a 1/4 elliptical - might try searching on that.
In the end though, you still have IFS in the front, so adding more travel in the rear isn't going to gain you much and could possibly HURT the performance of the truck as a whole because it's not balanced front/rear.

Actually, 1/4 eliptical is half a leaf pack (springs litterally cut in half) and inverted to mount. The shackle goes on the housing.

It has a big ellipse (obviously) when flexing. But it does allow for not much hanging down in front of the axle.
I believe what Russel is talking about is similar, but with acutal springs, plus another spring attached to the schakle to allow for the shackle to actually flex downward when at full droop.
Basically, the second spring lies flat against the frame, as does the shackle, until full droop is reached, and then the extra spring allows the shackle to come off of the frame, and flex downward as well.
Russel, I'm not sure that sounds like a good thing on the road, but if you've heard of folks running it, it might be alright.

I've seen them work well, much better than revolver shackles, but they are not ideal for the road.

That's some crazy rear steer! That's not good. AxleIke is correct, buggy springs and 1/4 eliptical are two different things. I can't say I've ever seen a buggy spring setup in person but I've read quite a bit about them. The worst part is the unloading of the buggy spring when headed down a steep incline. If the buggy springs unload at a bad time, you can end up on your top or side very quickly.
I've got a friend with a YJ on a 1/4 eliptical setup in the rear and a 4 link in the front on 42's. It does very well but it's also setup correctly unlike the red Jeep in the picture above.

3/4 eliptical, buggy leaves are ok. Correct shackle lenght and placement will usally give you more then your shocks will do.
Making the leaf is a bitch, you can't drill through the spring to mount it. Spring steel is way hard. Cutting is easy enough.
Buggy leaves are like revolver shackes with more resistance. They can be intresting when unloaded, and can somtimes cause "hop" when wheeling.

I'm pretty sure russel has a longbed, which i don't know if that makes a difference, but might help with the unloading. Not sure though.
Yeah, that red jeep is pretty whack. I've seen several buggies with that though, as they don't drive on the road.

My truck is a long bed and i think id be ok with uloading. My buddy has revolvers on his new zuk and i thought they would be bad but honestly i see them as pretty bad ass.
Anyone have stock leaf packs i can cut up?

lol.... post up on the national boards or just look around. I found a pack from a guy in the springs for 20 bucks that were in really good shape. alot of the people that are replacing their rear leafs would just throw them away unless they knew someone wanted them. to cut them a chop saw works best.... i waited to buy my chop saw till after i had already built the springs. so if you dont have access to one a angle die grinder works too.... but its PITA
