View Full Version : Cage build, not a SAS

Went and picked up some tubing on Thursday and started on a cage for the pile on Saturday. Cut some more crap off the rear and dovetailed the driver's side to match the passenger side, LOL. Got the B pillar and both A pillars done(both tied into the frame), and also the lower and upper windshield spreaders. Started to notch the tubes for the V in the middle of the windshield bars and dislocated my shoulder, so that's where progress stopped. More progress this week and hopefully will have it all done and tacked in place by the end of next weekend.

its looking good. body damage should be done to your rig not your self. how'd ya dislocate your sholder?
the frame on your "heep" looks masivly strong from the rear and and front. how much have you strech'd the wheel base, it looks really good. I miss my old "heep". thinking about getting a nother one as a special needs project. I need specialy to have a project.

LOL. The front and rear of the frame have 3"x4" x 1/4" wall tube welded on and gusseted in my personal beat your bitch approved fashion. The front axle is stretched 2.5" forward and the rear axle is 11.5" back. Dislocated my shoulder in a freak notching incident:rolleyes:

The little 2.5L is much faster than you think, atleast mine is:D Dragged a couple guys out in the dunes up comp hill. Smokes 4.0's like they weren't even racing, did beat a juiced 4.0 and a turbo 4.0 barely. And lost by 2 lengths to a turbo stroker 4.7. They get embarrassed when they say, is that a stroker, and I say nope, 4-cylinder:eek:

I'll be taking you up on that in Glamis now that you have 37s and some 60dz.
Oh, and I saw one of the 4.0 vs 4 banger races in Gordon; I was actually quiet impressed.

are you going to be putting a top back on this? If not then why the dip in the front tube? Looks? It does look better than a straight tube. I would suggest putting some corner gussets at least on that tube if not all of them. With that bend it might make that tube more likely to fail in higher speed roll overs I.E. the dunes.

Don't worry Timmay! There is plently more tube to go. The dip in the tube is the angry eyebrow, looks better than straight. Roof is gonna be an aluminum skin over the tube.

is your door bar high enough that you could hit it if you rolled on it? Cracked heads suck on rollcages. PSC's cage was too short for me so im redoing it all.

Negative. The back is about as high as my head, but it's behind the seat. The door bar just comes across the low-side of my shoulder.

Got the rear horizontal "hoop" done today, along with the grill hoop and the stinger. As a disclaimer, do not use the frame, body, or rear shock hoops/crossbar as an indication or to reference if anything is straight or not. Nothing is straight, which is making this very difficult because of trying to find what it straight/level/center of the rig.

Are you going to mount a 4 or 5-point harnes in your rig? if so what brand do you think works best for a crawler aplication.
P.S. where'd you steel the shopping cart?
Spinnas

That's at a buddies house. We put the bender mounts there, more room and no HOA. That's his welding cart and he's had it as long as I've known him. I have 5-point Crow harnesses. H for me and V for the passenger, both are latch-style bolt-on. Any decent(not super cheapo) harness is good, as long as they aren't ripped/torn or really dry and stiff/sunbaked.

I've got my arm over that crossbrace because the driver's seat isn't bolted down and if not, I'm gonna end up in the back. With the seat bolted down and leaning back, that bar goes across my shoulder but not against it.

Well, got the cage done, just needs to be welded. Don't have the forward upper door bar in on the driver's side yet as I don't have a quick release steering wheel yet. Tallest point on the B pillar is 79 1/2" with the tires at street pressure, 5 gallons of gas, and nothing in the Jeep. Should be fairly low with tools, spares, 2 people, and a full tank of gas at trail pressure
