Hey guys. I'm going to remove my Taco badges from the doors, and the Yota badge from the Tailgate. The SR5 decals behind the extended cab window, I'm going to remove, paint pearl black, and then reapply. The Tacoma, Prerunner and V6 badge on the tailgate, I'm going to remove, spray pearl black as well, and reapply on the bottom right hand corner of the tailgate.

My question is, what tips do you guys have to isntall the badges so that it looks the same (Spaced out evenly, straight etc...)

I was thinking about the tape. It would definately work for the sr5 badges, but for the tailgate, it would be hard because i am moving it to the bottom corner. I duno, maybe I'll do the tape, then transfer it to a paper and cut it out.

I am ordering the paint directly from testors today. I'll pin this thread up on my favorites and i'll shoot you guys that want to see it a PM.

I found a way to get the badges on correctly, well my friend did. Some chaulk and black paper, coat the badges with the chaulk and apply the paper on there. Viola, the chaul transfers to the paper, I can cut the paper out and fit the letters inside.

Also another thing you can do if the badge is one piece is steal someone's hairdryer heat it up then use dental floss to get off the old badges. Heat up the old tape take it off, put on new tape and do your best to re-apply.

It might be easier to take yours off and get new ones. I took all mine off and most of them ripped getting them off.

I dunno what it is....maybe my emblems are corroded? I heated them up a little and slid floss under them and they basically crumbeled to pieces. At least the Toyota emblem did on the tailgate. Grrrrr, I guess I have no emblems for now.

Wait, so the Toyota emblems on the tailgate are not metal?

Either they are a very brittle metal or are made out of plastic.

All the badges on my '98 were rubbery plastic type stuff. I destroyed most of them during the removal, but I wasn't very careful because I never intended to put them back on.

Hmmm. Now I have second thoughts on the black pearl. I'll look into it more.

Wow I've never heard of that happening before. What year is your truck?!

The individual letters are kind of a rubbery plastic that won't re-apply nicely. The door emblems will come off and go back on no problem. I took mine off, painted them black and put them back on and they look good, sexy actually. Girls say my emblems get them off.

Maybe I'll start lookin for the badges on the rear and paint everything else.

What about the SR5 badges behind the xcab windows?

i took the badges off my 99 today, and would be fine with leaving them off, but the rubbery ones left an outline that Goo Gone wouldn't get rid of. did you experience anything like that? if so, how did you get rid of it? it looks like ass. or perhaps i'm scrutinizing a little too much.

on my 99, they were the rubbery stuff. assuming they are the same material, they aren't hard to take off, but if you bend them slightly, they'll tear. then you have to go through the trouble of getting the old adhesive off. after today, i'm just leaving them off and am not going to bother painting them. just the plastic "Toyota Tacoma" ones on the doors.

what i really want to know is how to get the elliptical "T" off the grill. i think i'm going to have to remove my grillguard and dig around to see what's up.

Yes, SR5, TOYOTA, TACOMA, PRE RUNNER, V6 (if you have any of the last three) all on tailgate and/or behind the extra cab window are all a gel rubber with foil coating/plating... get a pencil or screwdriver and slowly apply pressure, heating isnt required... They come off easy... The hotter the quicker, but if carefull you dont need heat.

TOYOTA TACOMA on the doors are a hard plastic, just grab one end and slowly pull to yourself... it will break into two or three pieces... apply heat if you wanna save them (for what?)

Took mine off in 40 degree weather, hairdryer took to long, IMO.

Truck looks cleaner without them and literally is cleaner, dirt build up is disgusting just after a few months, plus it eliminates dirt trailing down the side of the vehicle after a few days..

Waxing is easier too...

Plus, now I get "is it a Tacoma" same as before when I had badging.... Heres your sign... is no longer required...

Well, I want the pearl black look.

I'll look into pricing on the Toyota, Tacoma, Preunner, V6, and SR5 run.
