Are zenon headlights, not just the bulbs but the headlight and bulbs, available for a 2001 Tacoma?

as far as I've heard from all of my car enthusiast buddies, xenon conversions are illegal. do you want the color or vision quality? HIDs and Silverstar Ultras seem to have good things said about them....my good friend just did a HID conversion on his WRX and it looks pretty darn good from the outside and in.

go to Checker or wherever for the Silverstar Ultras (or just silverstars). the set costs like 40 or 50 bucks.

AFTERMARKET kits can not be used anymore because people were running like 8k and 10k kits and doing it in stock headlights with no shields. I have had HIDs in my truck and pulled em out cause i was scared to smash a bulb with all the front end smashing. I have HID lowbeams and fogs in my bmw and never been hastled for any of it. If you do it right and it looks stock you will be fine.
I have a kit from a lexus SUV in my low beams (6500k bulbs) and 4300 in the fogs and it looks good i can see anything and everything.

The trick is to shield the bulbs for 2 reasons one so you can focus them with out a clear projector and 2 so they dont glare like crazy.
Grab a kit from ebay either bosch or phillups if possibe. True hid is different then the silverstar bulbs(HUGE waste of money) Expect to pay up to 120 shipped for a full kit. If you dont want to spend that kinda money you can relay your headlights with a nice set of piaa bulbs or even just normal bulbs.
Remember buying a kit factory hids are between 4300k and 6500k but never higher. Once you get in to like 3k you start to get yellow and above 6500 you get really purple. The higher the kelvins the less light output you will have but the more other drivers will hate you.
this was a 6500k kit in the truck in crystal housings. It was great but i got tired of being flashed and not having highbeams to flash back. upclose they look like a true white and farther away purple blue.

things to look for
Bulbs

you can get them in a oem size now so your not dealing with the D2s and D2r adapters.
Ballasts. Most come as a plug and play kit just make sure you see the parts listed in the kit before you buy it or you will have some bulbs that come from the asain market that cost the seller 7bucks and you paid 100

those pics came from the first auction i could find.

They look like a good deal and super cheap! if you have questions on a kit please feel free to ask anything before making your purchase

Just finished a shaved rear M3 bumper and defuser with turn down muffler. I gotta get the clips for my sideskirts on and the mirrors and moldings and with the wheels i will call it done for a while while the motor is finished up. S54turbo FTW!

i personally do not like silverstar bulbs.
i prefer PIAA's. more pricey, but i love them.
Super-Plasma GTX are my favorites, but are not available in all sizes...
otherwise I like the Intense white bulbs.

Hmm.
I won't go into my usual rant, since I like ya'll too much.
I'll just say this:
You know Troy's front lights? I plan on getting those mounted backwards on my truck so everytime some "person", and i use the term loosely, with those awful, obnoxious, super freaking retarded white lights gets behind me, I can blind them like they blind me.
I've written a couple emails to various manufactures of those lights letting them know just how much I dislike their product.
I can only hope that lawmakers wake up and make them illegal.

the problem isnt the lights.. its the aiming of the lights.. IMO..
all of our trucks are high enough those lights shouldnt bother you. and when they do its totally the aiming thats the problem.
i have shitty night vision, so i like having good headlights.

I am the oposite. My pupils are 15% larger than normal, so my night vision is amazing. It has nothing to do with aiming, it has to do with the color. Most of my family has the same issue.

That would suck!!!! Im not getting behind you in my car!!!! Troy hit me going up lefthand canyon road as i looked in my mirror and i saw spots tel i hit the trail head!
In the Us we have such shitty lighting that you either need to buy factory euro/JDM lighting or mod it to make it work. When i had the hid's in the truck i never got flashed but my lighting in the mountains was limited. I pulled em out and put that set in the bimmer and sold the other set i had in there because the trucks kit was better.I then added the kit to the bimmer and went back to H4 bulbs and i cant see anything. My headlight adjusters are now broken and and the core support is so smashed even if they were in there it wouldnt aim well anymore.
Some cars with out projectors you wouldnt know they had HID's if you didnt see em warm up. My fogs are from an S500 benz that didnt and you cant tell they are HID unless you see me turn them on after its sat.

I perfer the look of HID coming at me at night rather then some crappy "incadecent" bulb. The HID light is closer to natural light and is easier on the eyes, brighter with less strain. Also while driving the driver has less eye fatigue/straing making night driving easier.
I have a set of H4 HID at work I've been wanting to install in my runner but I don't have the lenses for them yet. I will get a set of bumper mount driving lights to make up for no highbeams.

A BMW 7 series approached me from behind in a hurry one night before his angel-eyes headlights could automatically dim, and I thought I was at the pearly gates for a second there.

HID's slapped into OEM housings are illegal and deadly to oncomming vehicles.
HID's are a much brighter, different type of bulb, and if you put them in your standard housing and not a quality OEM projector, they will emit light wherever all over the road, and shoot glare into oncomming motorists vehicles. Its deadly and not safe to do at all.
If you go the HID route find a vehicle with FACTORY HID's (IE: most BMW's, Mercedes, acura TL/TSX/RDX, Nissan Murano, etc. etc.) and find the projector housings for that vehicle, then retrofit that projector into your stock housing, and seal it up.
Not to mention, about 75% of HID's dont have a hi/low option, they're strictly 1 output.

Not all cars that were factory with HID had projectors. HID bulbs from factory cars came in different types. I always get it mixed up but D2S= projector car D2R non projector. If you put th ebulbs in ment for a projector in a normal fluted housing you will never focus it or get it aimed to where it wont suck for oncoming traffic with out the use of shields and even then its still sucks. I used bulbs from an sl500 and those dont have projectors. They focus just like stock and aiming them was perfect at stock adjusment. My lowbeams are aftermarket bulbs that are non projector bulbs with shields over them so again they work just like stock. The benifit is a more even light output. Where my oem bulbs left dark the hids fill and with the way i set it up my fogs cover from as close as i can see out to the lowbeams and those are aimed closer to me because the car is slammed 5.5-6 inches.

I have the quickstars in my '07 now and they are an improvement over stock and much whiter light but nothing compared to HID lights. The Quickstars are a lot less expensive replace over even a PIAA Plasma Bulb. In my old rig I kept going through the PIAA bulbs due to the jarring and bouncing off road. If I have this issue with the QuickStar I can justify the $24.99 at Checkers versus $50+ for the the PIAA's everytime they go out.
How are the HID bulbs off road? Is there an issue with bouncing and jarring with HID bulbs?

i wheeled carnage in the winter for the first time with the hid's in and was scared of that myself, They were fine and i didnt have an issue. I also had a guy in a jeep pull out in front of me in the snow and i hit him doing 40-45 and he was almost stopped and they were fine. My lexus kit came from a wreck same with the benz kit. My buddy used to work at a body shop and would save them from the trash and sell em off.
