LOL. You caught me. It's hard to post about much of anything these days without being a post-whore.
This very post is a good example.
Here's a solid Tacoma: Casey, a.k.a. MTNTOY, from Palmer, Alaska

The wee Tacoma in the background is my rig when I first got it in '03.

Unfortunately, that will not be possible at this time. How wide is your rear axle compared to the front? Just curious, I am looking to swap in a D60 eventually...

the axle's are full width, out of a 78 f250, however when i went to start the rear disc conversion i noticed that the 60 was 2" narrower than the front for some reason, I think the person replaced the rear 60 with something out of a van or something. it was an odd ball 60 that had 16 spline shafts, which was no biggy since i was putting a full spool and chromo shafts in it anyway. Ive found that the width helps alot in some situations and hurts ya a lot in others, i guess the same idea as wheel bases. One thing i like is it gets the tires out there so bigger tires are easier to fit, plus it feels 10x more stable than the stock width.

There is quite a difference between the reg. cab and the d-cab, both height and contour. The top edge does rub on the cab every now and then, but not enough to bother me.

it was built by a offroad shop here in birmingham that is now out of buisness, it had dual 60's, crawler, orbit eyes. the guy who had it built and didnt build it him self paid out the ass for it and then turned around and sold it like 2 weeks after it was somewhat drivable, it was way to tall IMO just for some 38's, i doubt it ever saw a trail after everything was said and done. i wish i could find it and get some parts off of it for cheap though :D GO T-JOE lol

He had it on ebay, and wouldn't tell anyone the reserve, so I bid 1 million dollars on it to find out. That made him mad, and he threatened intimate action against me.

That was on purpose. :D
The bottom shock mount mounts to the rear side of the axle. That was the only way I could fit the 14" travel shock with such little lift. It works very well. :D

It is not a hi-9, the case is a Strange Nodular case, and I will be putting it in the rear when I do my rear 9", and replacing the front with a hi-9. As you can see, I barley fit through those rocks, where as all my buds just went right through. I still havnt obstacle that I couldn't just ride one or both sides up, but I'm sure they exist... Other than that I LOVE the wide width. So much more stable and you end up being able to avoid slipping down rocks and walls alot more that the thinner guys.

coilovers are way over rated :D lol. ive been debating doing them front and rear as soon as my bed gets ripped off tomorrow and i start on my exo. in reality the front would be enough since i need to move my axle forward a few inches more for to clear the 42's. but i guess i have to find and build my front 60's first. wanna buy a built 44 and rear 60?

Here is the biggest picture I can post. D44 running 33's. I have shock hoops and the bling 5100's on the front now instead of the crappy F-250 towers and superlift shocks. I am getting ready to change around the rear alot, putting an interior cage in it, plus ditching the flatbed and bobbing/dovetailing the stock bedsides.
Anybody want to buy a flatbed? It's for sale cheap :)

Off-topic: I have been thinking about your Tacoma full-floater kit and wondering some things: is there a feasible way to use Tacoma IFS hubs and rotors and calipers etc. instead of the hodge-podge of other parts?
I figure that after going solid, I will have all my frontend parts not going to use.
Is there a way to do it?

Curious? Why not just get his FF kit and then sell your stuff and recoupe prolly about enough that his kit will cost about the same as trying to get all the mix n match way of getting it done? just an idea. :)

That is probably what I would do, but I just wonder about the ease of finding all these parts without going through Toyota, who might not have everything.
I will be a Toyota tech next summer so I guess I can check on all those parts.
How is your swap progressing? Gathering parts? From your write-up it sounds like a very well thought out project.

He sure can! That is what I'm having him do for me, 2 axles front and rear, with Chromo's full floaters disks all around and Chromo Longfields etc etc all Toyota baby! Long's are torque testing as strong or a little stronger than Dana 60's. I'd give Brian a call if I were you and talk with him personally about what your ideas might be, his housings can fit ANY 3rd you want, so if you want a 60 or Ford 9" or what ever he can do it up, call him, he is great and very full of quality info. But he can't e-mail info that well cuz his brain runs away from his fingers and sometimes I'm like... huh? and have to call him for clarity and then I understand :D ;) ( had to do it Brian )
Anyway give him a ring for more info.

Coils huh? Cool. I decided against coils for the tried and true, lower maint. leafs. After driving Grumpy's with his 85 Toyota pick up LENGTH spec'd leafs built for Taco weight, made by Alcan and how stinking CUSHY they ride, I was SOLD!
I'm going with rear leafs that are 2 inches longer from center pin to the rear so i can get longer shackles without a lot of lift so I can get more droop.
As for tires, Interco is supposed to come out with a TRXS MT in a 37" x 15 SOON! I love my 34's so I'm hoping, those or prolly Irok radials.

Yeah, I was almost ready to order leafs for a swap back in May, but I started to think about coilovers and really liked what they offer.
I will be able to pick a chassis height that works for my tires (36" bias IROKs) and then tune the coilover ride height to fit it perfectly. I will probably lay out the rear first, using 63" Chevy springs without overloads, combined with 4" lift shackles, and then make the front match it.
My friend Jimmy O'Lexey in Wyoming has Alcans front and rear and is running 37s. He has great flex and doesn't have a ton of body roll, and his truck seems to ride like a Caddy (haven't gotten to ride in it yet). He is super tall, due in part to a body lift, but he doesn't have to drive his truck everyday, so he can get by.
I, on the other hand, have a goal to only go up maybe six inches, tops, in total height, while staying as wide as possible. I'll keep the axles at their factory width of about 66" or 67".
I very much look forward to doing the swap. 'Till then, I have to live vicariously through the local SA guys, LOL.

What axles are you getting, those are full width specs? Tacomas are 61" WMS to WMS in front and 60" in the rear.
I'm going plus 4" front and rear to be between stock and full width.
I am ordering springs with 3" of lift at 85 P.U. specs, so it should give me about 5" of lift plus my 2" body should fit 37's perfectly.

I have an RS 44 from an Early Bronco. Here's a pic:
http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2003-4/155437/axle.jpg
It's pushed up against the front of the bed.
I will likely run spacers and longer studs in back to somewhat equal it out. I am also going to get fiberglass to help cover the width. A factory type flare might be added to the fiberglass flare to further enhance coverage.
There is another guy around here running a 9" that is approximately the same width, if I remember correctly.
Your lift height sounds very good for 37s.
Hopefully I get to see this thing in Moab this year, maybe if you come back in October.

The taco parts are inferier (sp?) to the older parts. Theyre running an expensive unit bearing setup. When this goes out, it stinks, bad. Trash a wheel bearing on the earlier parts, no big deal, drop $30 at the parts store, and go. As for rotors and calipers, you can run em on the front if we build you a 60 outered hybrid front! :xdevil: Or, you may be able to run them on the rear. there's a guy currently working on doing just that, so we'll see what he finds out. I personally dont think its worth it, as the wheel hub needs machining. Id go with Kirks suggestion, sell it all off, and start over with new. As for sourcing all the other goodies, we can do that. We're trying to keep all the other pieces in stock these days.

There's just so many options, and things to go back and forth on, really the best way, is to call. Just depends on the rig, its use, tire size, etc.

1st congrats on keeping the rig reasonable height. 2nd, axle is 4.5" forward. 2" forward 1st build, then pushed it another 2.5 second time around.
As for where the 44044 sits, that depends. If they are using our hangers I can determine, otherwise I wouldnt even have a guess.

nope not Rubicon express...dean built :D .... I used Johnny joints in the rear and heims up front.
you can see them here
http://www.norcalttora.com/~dean/TacoSAS/more%20pics2/slides/IMG_6122.html (http://www.norcalttora.com/~dean/TacoSAS/more%20pics2/slides/IMG_6122.html)
I did my setup similar but different than the dicks. his links are set up like the old Ford Bronco.... Big C bushings up front and the rear is also like the old bronco's. but I did the coilovers and bling bumps...soon to have hydro assist.
I took a bunch of pics of his stuff :)
http://www.norcalttora.com/~dean/the%20dick%20SAS/ (http://www.norcalttora.com/~dean/the%20dick%20SAS/)
I made a miss calculation when I did the ends. with the heims you get all bind no flex without the one upper link removed from the top. the Rubicon express system uses all bushings where I put heims but they use a Johnny joint in the rear, like I did. if you look at my shakedown pics ( http://www.norcalttora.com/gallery/album133?page=2 (http://www.norcalttora.com/gallery/album133?page=2) ) (look at the bottom of page 2 and top of page 3) a guy in a Jeep Rubicon with the Rubicon express setup drove up and I took a bunch of picks of his stuff. ultimately that is what I want to copy so I don't have to take one of the upper links off to get the flex. I also want to move my rear attachment points back about 8 to 10 inches. that will also cause less bind.
damn that turned into a f'n essay:eek: LOL

A patent would be cool, but not worth the money unless you are going to sell the bumpers.
I really like your design, though. This is one of my designs, http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2003-4/155437/1.jpg, but I really like your grille protection. I might combine the two looks.

Judging by the skill you exhibited on your frame, suspension, bed, bumper, and so on, and so on, I believe you could build anything you wanted out of tubing and sheet. You already have the bed, sliders, and bumper that you could market. Just make some jigs so you can make them to exacting specs.
You have the skill!
I need to learn how to weld so I can start making my own stuff as well, but I will apply my work to my suspension and drivetrain.

Whats up dude? My recommendation to you is to just buy a welder and start welding stuff together. That's how I started out and it seems as though we have/had the same train of thought process about trucks in general (aka, what looks good and serves a great purpose). So far I started out making a square tube front bumper that turned out to be OK, made some quick disconnect mudflaps, couple bed bars, rear bumpers etc. Right now I'm planning on building a bed cage thats tied into the frame so I guess we'll see how that goes. I found that if I have all the tools I need to get stuff done, I'll definately get it done and learn in the process. My advice to you is to just start buying tools, buy a welder, buy a grinder and some safety goggles, who knows where it'll take ya. :welder:

Not much. How are you doing?
One of my buddies back in Alaska took some welding classes at a career center, then just got his own welder, used, and started practicing, so I figure that's a good place to start. He built his own RTI ramp with a hitch and removable tires and it came out pretty damn nice.
I'll plan to buy a welder when I am back home this summer, and just tinker with it, welding scraps together. Relocating my rear shocks might be a good first project once I have some skills. Then maybe making a tire carrier.
I kind of wish that I was going to Wyotech right now and learning chassis fabrication, but I am confident that my current career goals will afford me enough of an income to just buy some good welding gear and learn from experienced fabricators.
I don't need to become a master fabricator like Jake, but it would be nice to have the skills to make a safe rollcage, nice bumpers, tube fenders, and so on for myself and friends.
Thanks for the advice, buddy.

welding is fun to me, i never took any classes, however my dad who did weld for a living taught me and i guess it has just stuck. however im the type of person that i have to just do it to get good at it. so over the past few years i probably weld on average of 30-50 lbs of wire a week just doing shit to the truck and messing with all my buddies rigs. to be a hobbie it damn sure is expensive as hell. 1400 for the welder, 1300 for plasma cutter, grinders, benders, dies, saw's and well the list goes on forever but hell its like taking a nerve pill for me :D

12 bolt rear, 44 front.
why a 12 bolt? i would think the stock 8.4 rear would be as strong. D60 rears are cheap and 14bolts even cheaper, and those are some axle breaking tires when they grab, plus they are heavy as hell. o well to each to his on. nice looking truck though.

Envy is so ugly, kind of like your cute little camo truck. I f I wanted to be cool I guess I should have gone to the locall shop and save and bought a couple rattle cans so I could have a "cool" paint job like yours.
I just pulled it out of the shop that day, if you look close there isn't even a front drive shaft, hence no off-road yet or body damage. You are welcome to bring your little camo can up here and put your money where your mouth is or did you spend it all on the "COOL" paint job?

LOL..... So now we are comparing who's cock is bigger and who can wheel better? LOL Thats ok.... I have plenty of easy trails here in AZ to run! Do you think I envy you becasue your truck is reguraly waxed? LOL I was just pointing out a fact... When I see trucks that actually wheel.... Whether they are SAS'd or not (remember... having an SAS is not a requirement for going out and actually wheeling your truck), those trucks that do wheel have steel bumpers, sliders, winch, something to show that they take their truck offroad. And all those said parts have rock rash on them. Im not saying that you have to destroy that pretty truck to be a wheeler. But its obvious by those pictures that you are more about the Bling than actually wheeling your truck. Even the Bling King Dick Foster has rock rash and dents. Dont get yoru hopes up of me coming up to Co to wheel with you. I prefer the mall parking lot! :)
And you must Envy my paint job... or why else would you mention it. It must be Envy according to you! LOL

No this is the seccond rig I have built, just figured instead of wasting time and money on "progressing through the modifications" I would just do it right the first time and save time and money. Don't you have anything better to do than bash someone elses truck that you know nothing about? The curb was to check the articulation and make sure I trimmed the rear wheel well enough. Unlike you I could not build it all in one shot, I have to wait to build the bumpers and sliders, sorry for posting my incomplete truck.

Should be even more badass with the armor, and the bed-bob should be badass.

Not bashing it.... Looks like some nice work and and parts under that thing. I never bashed the work done to the truck. If you want me to give you props and tell you how nice your swap looks then here it goes. Wow... thats an awesome setup.... what did you use for axles. That rig is sweet! I bet it would take first place at the Co Show and Shine! :)

Yeah you know your right maybe I should give up on the whole wheelin' thing and just go to the shows, can you give me a list of the ones you go to I am new to the whole show thing and it sounds like you know what up. Maybe I could learn from such a vast knowledge you seem to have.

How much lift do you have? It looks like 12+

8" over stock plus 5 more in tires so yes 12+ is about right.

Looks pretty bling! Has the truck ever seen a difficult trail? Probably not with no sliders, bumpers or anything to resemble a truck that goes offroad. Looks like a person who wasted a bunch of money just to be cool.
Try again!

It's big and shiny, and has some very primo parts on it, but I'm not going to make any judgements about it from a few preliminary pictures.
Less than a year ago my truck was in the same condition. It was lifted and had a locker in it, but I had never really wheeled it.
Fast forward to me moving to Utah for college. I went to Moab twice in two consecutive months and wheeled all over Utah, going out every weekend for two months. My truck has progressively gotten more scratched, more dented, and more trail-oriented in appearance.
My point is, give him a chance to get out and use his truck. I wanted to SAS my truck shortly after I got it, but I held off and actually got some wheeling experience. Now I have a much better idea of what I need my truck to do, so my swap will achieve exactly what I want from the truck.
Like he said, this isn't his first build. Maybe he already knows what he needs in a vehicle so he went ahead and built it.
That's my :2cents:

I can't argue either one because I like the Odyssey battery but we could do Odyssey vs Optima.

Thank you that is exactly the case. This is my 3rd trial rig so I know what I wanted and built it. Not finished yet and I am sure I will find things I want to change, but I like my starting point, well after some sliders!

Where did you measure to? Here is a picture of mine with 8" of lift and my small 33's (32.4") and my tires stick just as far if not farther in to the fenders then yours.

measure your body line on the door to the ground and tell me what you have. Mine rally isn't much more than 12" over stock. Nice looking truck, It's nice to see someone else who cares about how it looks and wheels.

I you looked at it close you will see all the scratches and the dent in the lower portion of the extra-cab. My truck looked nice before I started to wheel it then it went down hill

Mine is 29 1/2" to the bottom of the door with a tire that is just over 32". So if you had around 8" of suspension lift, you should be at 34"

The ram assist is rockstompers, I drilled and tapped my factory box. I am not very happy with it and am about to buy either the Howe full system or PSC. I don't know what to do. I am just unhappy with what I have got. Nice truck love the swampers If I didn't drive mine to and from Moab I might have gone that route. How do you like your t-case, why that route instead of an Atlas?
We should hook up sometime and go wheel or just check out eachothers trucks, I'll let you drive mine so you can experience the ram-assist.
