Well as some of you know, This has been a on again, off again type build. I have had this 85 4runner for 5 years now. It's been retired from DD service, and it's time to get serious. Here's a pic of the 4runner, right after I bought it. I drove it home from Houston,TX, with 198,000 miles on the dial.

Here's what it looks like now. It has a 2" body lift, 2" drive train lift, Aussie lockers FR/RR, LC vented rotors, V-6 calipers, marlin sliders, and custom rear bumper. I have already rebuilt the front axle and replace the bearings. The rear axle has one side that has new axle bearings and seals "hate the concrete, hate the concrete, hate the concrete". If you ever replaced the rear bearings on a Toy, then you now what I mean. I "hated" the job so much....I decided to wait on the other side.

I got the donor case took apart. I cleaned and bead blasted the reduction housing. MC07-R10 #313 installed. Had a little issue with the left side shift rail. The shift rail was real tight, so I called MC. I talked with rocky. He told me to tap the shift rod back an forth with a hammer to loosen it up. Did that and add a little grease.... worked like a champ.:D Good OL lucky #313 LOL. Next job pull the T-case and trany to install the 4.7 gears. While I have the trany out, I have some seals that need attention.

Very nice! I'm lovin' your 4Runner.
I'll keep watching if you keep building. :D
You going to run those All-Pro springs you were trying to sell?

Ya, there going under the runner. Thanks for not buying them...I guess your the reason I'm building this truck. After all, my wife did say she wanted them out of the basement. I don't think she knew how expensive the move to the garage would be. LOL I'd hate to waist a good set of springs.

Glad I motivated you. There's too much good wheeling around you not to have a good Toyota.
Now get to work! :saw: :whip:

I took the IFS steering box apart to drill and tap for hydro-assist. I'm going to plug the box for now. I felt like a dumb-ass for letting the 44 little balls fall out  :banghead: Then, I checked the FSM, "don't let the balls fall out" Thats a quick way to ruin progress. After doing a little search, I didn't feel so bad. Seems this happens often. O well, got it back together. I will drill and tap the box tomorrow.

Got the box drilled and tapped. It really isn't that hard of a job. Unless you let the piston unscrew, and drop all the little balls.

Hydro assist is the way to go. It shure makes life easier. How hard was it to get all the balls back in? I've been fortunate(spelling?) and haven't done that one yet, but I did smash the little tube that the balls go through and waste one box.

It was very frustrating till I figured it out(1.5 hours later). Here are the steps that worked for me:
Find a clean place to work
Foil pan to catch the balls when you drop them
Count to make sure you have all the balls (44)
Remove the recirculation tube
Place 5-6 bearing in the first grove of the box
Place the worm shaft on the 5-6 balls you placed in the box. Very first row.
Slowly drop the balls in hole that the recirculation tube goes in.
As you drop in the balls rotate the shaft into the box.
Once you see the balls coming up in the second hole stop turning the shaft.
The tube is in two pieces, seperate the tube and fill with vasaline.
Press all the remaining balls in the vasaline filled half.
Place the other half on the recirculation tube.
Install the tube in the box.
This should take only about 15 min.

I got the T-case pulled and cleaned up the worst of it. Time to tear it down and install the 4.7 gears.

Took this picture for the oiling tube position.

Here is a pic of the t-case before I took it out of the truck. 258,000 miles worth of oil build-up. My next project is to find the tranny leak that caused this...

Here are the cases built and ready to be bolted up. :D

I found the cause of the leak. It was the front seal leaking because of a bad pilot shaft bearing. The bearing failied and ate up the input shaft. This caused it to wobble when the clutch was depressed. I've been doing a little work to the tranny while I'm waiting for the input shaft to show up...I hate waiting on the big brown truck, it's a long way to Cali. Any way here's what I've done. Built the SST puller, and torn down the tranny.
