why? - if you have a empty center section you can stuff in whatever you want. why f-up another axle.

If you want to make a passenger drop high pinion axle, just knock the C off the passenger side and cut it down to the chevy size. You'll have to re-tube the drivers side anyway so just know the tube out and the C off and assemble to chevy specs.

Make sure;
-You have room for the pinion to be that high as it will be close to the engine.
-when you put the C's back on to rollthem back to compensate for pinion angle and/or castor addition you might want.
-Leave aprvision in the drivers side tube for an axle seal.
-Use a sealer of some sort around the Drivers tube as you press it it. It will leak if not.
-Use teh proper stick to weld the drivers tube to the housing.

Since you have all the proper equipment to do this type of mod, you midas well mill the spring perch for pinion angl as well. Unless your in teh 21st century and are linking the front?

Good luck.

i want to make a driver side drop with a ford hp center but stay with chevy axle length so i can use chevy axle shafts.. i just want to know if i move the short side of the chevy axle to driver side and long side of the chevy axle to passenger side that the chevy axle shafts will still work with out mods..

Ah, sorry for the confusion.

Compare the lengths of the shafts to each other to see. I know there is a difference but not sure what? Just leave it ford stuff and run chevy outers for teh six lug brakes. All your chevy axles will be useless once you go chromolly anyway. :p

Depends on what years axles you are using. Most of them are interchangable, but there are years with different lengths. And when I say interchangable, I mean they work. The closest lengths are still slightly different. The difference allows for an extra retaining clip on the end of the shaft that doesn't have to be used. If you find that the Chevy's are a bit too long, then you'd have to trim them down about 1/8 of an inch or so. My axles are a mixture of Ford and Chevy parts in a Ford housing. Since the spindles are Chevy I should be running Chevy outers because they are a smidge longer, but I'm running the Fords w/o the extra retaining clip. Pretty common and lots of guys run them this way.
