i have a 98 reg cab tacoma. i just got a black brush guard and my truck is black... is there a way to get the chrome parts off my bumper (replace or paint) and get the chrome trim off my grill? i think it would look better. I already plan to do the black pearl mod the the emblems.... any ideas?

Unbolt the bumper trim. Take the grille off by removing the clips.
Sand, prime, paint, paint again, clear.

Do you have a link to writeups or a link to pics?

Not at this point.
Those pieces are all very easy to remove. The grille comes off in seconds.
Rough the pieces up with sand paper (like 100 grit) or a Scotch-Brite pad or steel wool. Then prime, paint and clear, doing a couple layers of each of you want to.

I used Duplicolor touch up paint (big can) on my rear bumper and Krylon Rust Stopper on some wheels I used to run. The Duplicolor has held up well. The Rust Stopper has held up well also and comes in flat, semi-flat, and gloss to suit your taste.

I did my o1 Taco. I suggest using a scot brite pad to scuff the chrome. Then after each coat of paint is dry use 400 or 600 grit sand paper to smoothout the paint, except the last coat of course .
Here is a pic of my grill.

There are the little chrome bars on the (what is it 97-99?) models' bumper. Is it possible to get those little pieces black too?

I am interested in that as well. Also, when you paint to front grille, you do the rear bumper as well, correct? How is that done?

im assuming it will be the same process....scuff it up a bit so that the paint has somethin to stick too....couple of coats and seal it

I painted my billet grill and clear corners NAPA metallic black and bought a stock black pearl grill shell off another member and came out with this:
Clean:

a little muddy:

a little dusty:

I've since powdercoated the grill gloss black but it looks about the same...

I just painted mine a few weeks back. the front trim just pops right off and you have to remove your driving lights to get the trim around them. I sanded them down and then applied two coats of adhesion promoter then the flat black. I also used the duplicolor trim paint. used it on the decals too. looks good and has so foar held up really good.

did you ever get them off? i looked underneath the truck and saw 2 bolts that i think hold on the chrome pieces (i've got a 99, also). are these the only things keeping those chrome bits on?
i managed to get the grill painted. i have a stock WAAG grill guard on, and getting that grill off was a bitch. took a few hours to realize i could get to the lower clips by going under the truck, then actually getting the grill out from behind the grill guard took a little sweet talking.
