I got the supercharger installed in my truck today.
It took me all day yesterday (working solo 12 hrs) to do the mechanical install. The mech directions were nothing short of amazing. The kicker was that sometimes a one-liner took hours!
I did the electrical install today (with help from my brother) in about 4 working hours. The electical directions and parts kit leave a lot to be desired.
It cranked right up and ran OK on two short "training runs". No pinging at all - but I had filled it with 90 octane and added a pint of Outlaw octane improver that claims to make it 93. I will "wean it" from the additive slowly, to try to get it trained without lnocking or pinging.
The belt slips a bit if the power steering is loaded heavy when you goose it. I'll adjust the belt before I leave Texas.
Tomorrow is the sliders and maybe the ARB rear locker. Gotta take advantage of this free labor!

Well, I pulled the old diff, removed the ring gear, then pulled the RD129 from the box to start the install. The FUCKING thing has a big gouge right across the air seal.
I'll spend all day tomorrow putting the old unit back together and installing it. What a LOAD of wasted time and effort. ARB has not made a friend of me!
Bolted the winch to the front bumper and reinstalled the front bumper. Did not get the rest of the electrical install done on the winch. Got the sliders painted and welded on. Have primed and painted the rear bumper, and will install it tomorrow.

You should just install the ARB - the air seal is easy to replace, of course, yoou have to disassemble the axle and pull the third to do it ...

if only all of our builds could go as quickly as yours! to bad about the arb though...do we have to get the HOW together again to get this thing done?!

Troy,
I was not clear in my description of the problem with the ARB. The gouge is across the journal the air bearing rides in, It would never seal and would eat the O-rings.

Good news is the truck ran great coming back to Aurora from Texas. Only issue is at protracted idle or on decel below 3000 RPM the engine seems to die then catch itself. It does this after sometimes long periods of stable idle. Maybe Brian can help me figure it out. I think it might be when the 5th injector kicks out of the loop?
My brother and I pulled the front bumper, got the winch on it, then reinstalled the front bumper and installed the rear bumper. We also pulled teh skid plates and painted them black while we were at it. Then we went to a welder and had the sliders welded on. He did a good job, with added gussets. I forgot to shorten the mounting stubs to line the inner tube up with the weld seam like you advised. I wish I had remembered it...

I heard back from Randy's Ring & Pinion. ARB has approved the replacement of the defective part. They gave me the option of shipping the old unit back so they could replace it, or they'd ship me just the new case half and let me replace it.
Since I've wanted to see the inside of these units since I first heard of them, this is my golden opportunity! The part is on it's way...

I wasted $75 today getting a dyno run on the SC with the Unichip that came with it. Someday they are supposed to email me the runs, but they looked like crap. AFR 16:1 until finally at 4500 RPM the 5th injector kicked in and brought it down to 14. Still, it made 165 SAE (corrected) HP at the wheels at 4500 RPM. That's up from 126 SAE RWHP in stock form (a Cincinnati dyno run.)
Now I just need to get the URD kit and 2" pulley installed and see what it'll really do.

I got the URD electronics installed yesterday, and roughly tuned today. It's already a whole lot better than the UNICHIP setup.
Interestingly enough, the Dyno tuner was right - my stock AFR sensor is centered at 16.3 instead of 14.7. Well, that's what the AFR Calibrator is for, and it worked a treat!
I also installed the 2.0" pulley (vs 2.35" stock). Now I'm getting 8 PSI(Absolute) boost (vs 4 PSIA stock) at 5000 RPM, no knocks no pings on a 50 degree day at 5000-7000 ft. I wonder if I could say that in Death Valley on a summer day?
ROAD TRIP! :D

Did you get the Alpine or the Rotrex unit? Curious to hear how that works out for you and what the HP is with URD electronics. I hear the alpines suffer from loose head bolts though. Considering the the alpine for my 3rz or rewroking the internals when it comes time to rebuild mine a long, long way down the road.

The initial results fro URD are not all that good. It seems there's a timing problem: too much retard at high end. (You cannot add advance with the URD AIC/TC.) Checking to see what I can do....
UNICHIP had too much adance at low end. I just can't win! UNICHIP made better power by far than what I'm getting now, but bucked and jumped (misfiring) at low RPMs - unuseable on the trail.

hmmm...don't know much about this. Do any of the standalone fuel management systems have a fuel map that allows for different timing advances through the rpms?

I thought it was too much retard behind the wheel

I know this is an old thread but I was wondering how the URD charger is working for you. I will be getting either a URD kit or the LCE kit here in the next few weeks and have not found which one would be best. Although it seems that with ARP studs the LCE (Alpine) kit might be the best. Opinions?

I talked to Don a couple of weeks ago. On his way to the mountains for his 2 week elk hunt the truck blew up on him and he had to leave it on the side of the road to be towed. I talked to him when he got back: no elk, but nice couple of weeks in the bush and he was looking for a good mechanic to work on it... And yes, he's been crazy busy with work too!

I think He got a good mechanic to work on it - I also got the SOS call.... Which sucked the engine blew.
his charger had been making noised ever since the shop that put his arbs in had worked on the truck. he was kinda waiting for the charger to go.

That must have been the message I got. About 3 weeks ago I listened to a voicemail that was static and said somthing about a blown engine on I70. Didn't hear a number or name so I figured they would call back. No one ever did so i ignored it. Sorry Don
