Aloha auinala,
I will be picking up a brand new 08 taco (access cab, 4x4, v6, sr5, 6spd) later this week, and just wanted to say aloha to everyone here. I plan to mod as soon as I get my other truck sold (1995 Lightning, if you know anyone looking for a nice 2wd truck, with a big 351 and light mods) but I'm still unsure of what I should buy first. Admittedly, I have never "wheeled" before, but look forward to it when the time comes, therefore I think I should familiarize myself with the truck's limitations first. But I was thinking arb locker (where do you guys buy your parts from?) coilovers, and 33's. Suggestions are of course welcomed. Ke aloha no-Josh

welcome. if you are looking to lift, you should look into donahoe coilovers, and either dakkar or deaver leafs. if your putting an arb in the rear maybe you should regear as well with 4.11's. for 33's it will almost put you back to stock, even though with the v6 you dont really need gears. deffinatly look into armor for it, on 4x4boyz they're is someone who can order from allpro for cheaper shipping cuz of a group buy deal he has with them. If not there are places you can have fab up something for you, just have to find them. they are great trucks, have fun with it.

Welcome aboard, Josh! Sounds like you're about to put yourself into a pretty nice rig - congrats!

4 Wheel Parts (Waipahu) is one of the cheapest places to buy a lot of stuff out here, just due to the fact that they don't charge an arm and a leg on shipping (just a "transfer" fee to get it from their mainland warehouse out here, which isn't very expensive, usually). On stuff that they don't commonly stock (i.e. stuff from Donahoe aka Icon Vehicle Dynamics, Demello Off-road, Wheelers Off-road, etc), it's usually best to get prices from a few places - including the actual manufacturer - and have them tally in shipping. Surfing the web and making calls is usually a good bet whenever you're making a purchase on off-road stuff out here (or a lot of other things, for that matter!).

Good luck with the truck and the upgrades! If you have any questions at all, just let us know! Hope to see you on a run soon!!

Have a great weekend,
-Radar

Mahalo for the welcomes. Yeah I was thinking of going down to 4wheelparts after I get my truck sold (if I was to go down there now, I'd be tempted to make an irrational buy--aren't they all?!) but for now I'm just waiting to get in my truck! I was supposed to go pick it up today, then Saturday, and now they're telling me Monday! Man, I'm really hurting to get into the truck, as it will be the first vehicle I'm getting w/o the help of others. I look forward to meeting all of you at one of the trails soon! A hui hou kakou, Josh

Wassup Josh,

Welcome to TTORA. :D

When you sell your truck, go to 4wheel and get lifted and tires so you can make it out on Feb. 16th to Peacock Flats.

hey josh-
welcome! did you spring for the TRD off-road package for your new taco? that group actually includes an electronic locking diff in the back... you could actually cross your first mod off your list (locker) before you even got the truck!

congrats on your new purchase. take your time in the research, look around this board and others.... and most of all, have fun!

aloha

Unfortunately no, I thought it would be cheaper to just get an air locker and install instead since the salesman told me besides the locker, you don't get a whole lot. (He was super cool, would recommend to anyone). On another note, <rant> after picking up my truck on Monday, I already got keyed  I was soooooooo pissed off; I know it was just cause people are haters too. It happened in Manoa Marketplace parking lot (after my classes were done I went to eat lunch) and it couldn't have been sitting there for longer than 30 min. It's a really deep scratch that extends from the driver's side door to the fender! Fuck, I'm far from a small braddah either, whoever it was, was extremely lucky I didn't catch him. I don't know if I can do anything besides call my insurance company and ask them for guidance. Seriously, why do people do shit like this? I drive responsibly, don't park like an asshole, and still some faggot comes and does this shit /rant. I'm thinking about clearing some of the credit card up (only to fill it back up, lol) and getting a set of nitto terra's and mojave's, since my truck came with the base 245/70/16 (I think?), and I think they look pretty small. I'm still pretty nuha (salty) about the scratch, but now I'm more just depressed. BTW mahalo nui for all the welcomes. Malama-Josh

Man I can not believe that crap! People who disrespect others property are just plain pussy's! I dont understand why people think that defacing other peoples hard earned things is ok or even called for. Dont be a hater! Grow the fawk up and enjoy your own life the way it is. They will get theirs in the end. Karma will always come around one way or the other. Sorry about the damage man.
