Seems like it would be easy enough to give it a shot yourself... At least that's what I would do. You just need some wood and carpet...

Behind the seat?

What I did with mine was 'glass the back wall to the sides of the box - saves 3/4" depth...

if I was comfortable with my glass skills I would have too. im going to redo it eventually but I have a few things on my to-mod list first.

I was checking out craigslist and came across a stero shop in Colorado Springs that can build a sub woofer box, install an amp and the sub woofer for $500.00. I went to car toys and showed them a picture of the box that I decided I wanted and they wanted $625.00 for the same setup and I wont even consider going to Quality Auto Sound on Federal, that place is a joke!

Audio equipment + materials + jigsaw, and you can do it by yourself for under $300. Trust me it's not hard I've built MANY boxes. The carpeting on the outside is something you can pick up at a fabric store way cheap. I found a brand new 12" Solo-baric L7 on ebay for $130 + $100 for an audiobahn amp, and a $40 ampwiring kit. Easily under $300 for that setup with the box I built for like $20. I'm sure someone at the HOW could do it.

I thought allot about spending an additional $500.00 on a sub woofer and an amp and I decided it isnt worth it not to mention I don't feel like driving down to Colorado Springs and wasting an entire day for a box to be built and an amp installed. I called the installer this morning and canceled my appointment.

I got an email from a company that makes box's and they have an L shaped box that fits on the rear seat like an arm rest that's specifically built for extended cab Tacoma's they sell for $129.00. I wouldn't mind going that direction but with my luck I'd wire the sub woofer and amp up and fry the entire electrical system of my truck... Im that bad lol.

I have this for sale if you want it, Fits behind the bench in my 91 std cab with no problems. $240 for the sub and box if oyu are interested

here are some specs:
Sub:
This 12" shallow subwoofer handles 1400 watts max., 350 watts nominal power, and delivers deep bass with top-notch sound quality. It also sports multiple patent-pending features to deliver the big bass performance of a full-size subwoofer, but in a compact design that can be installed either behind or under seats depending on the type of vehicle. One of the new patent-pending features is the "Air Suspension Control System," wherein the design locks in air between the main cone and drive cone, ensuring smoother and more precise movement of the cones, for superior linearity. The locked-in air behaves like a spring, so there's no need for a traditional spider structure. The drive cone also deflects air pressure inside the enclosure, which further contributes to the remarkable bass of the small package. The mounting depth is just 3-1/4" - less than half a typical subwoofer in this class.

Box:
sealed truck style enclosure designed for the Pioneer TS-SW3041D 12" shallow subwoofer * 3/4" MDF (medium density fiberboard) with black carpet covering * contrasting front panel with integrated grille * gold-plated binding post connectors * dimensions: 31-5/8"W x 14-3/8"H x 6-7/8"D1 x 4-5/8"D2 *

I looked at that pioneer when I was shopping and it just didnt seem right to me. it had a wierd distortion at a certain frequency in that box (dont know what frequency) but it was such a mid range distortion that I didnt feel comfortable running that for my type of music (mostly rock and underground stuff) but im just a picky audiophile. still a great sounding sub, just not EXACTLY what I wanted.

Tug, buy that box... you wont find a place that can build the same box for that price...

I can do the install for you if you wish, its not hard at all, really simple, maybe 2 hours of time for the full install (of sub/amp with the wiring kit and what not)

Oh - and Isaac - I had 10x the amount of stuff in my truck, and my wiring was STILL neater than yours and didn't short out anything! :flipoff1:

Yeah, I almost had the same thing happen to me when I was moving from Los Angeles. I kept telling myself that I'd get a hotel room at the next town but when the next town came around I kept going. Finally after 17 hours of driving I couldn't take anymore and pulled into some rest stop at God only knows where and slept like a big dawg. I can do without alot of things but sleep isnt one of them.

Thats not saying much dude. I'm so inept at this, I'd bet a 3 year old could do a better job than me.

Now, on a more serious hijack, who did your interior? You? If so, I'm coming to you for some work on mine. Not nearly that much, but a couple of things.

When I started, the shop doing the audio install did it, but after a while, I was doing some, so depending what you want, I could probably do it.

for mine could we do an entire fiberglass dash so I can mount another pair of 6.5"s and my 3.5"s and a set of tweets along with all the factory gauges and such in a clean fassion it looks factory. oh, and my radar detector with my ghetto speaker (factory internal crapped out so I hooked in an ancient computer speaker thats taped to my dash now lol) need molded in. just a wild idea.. :D

Yeah, we could - it's not all that hard really.

Maybe we need to have a wood/fiberglass edition of the HOW... LOL

now your just tempting me...im pretty good with wood but cant glass very well (or my box would be) but I really want to step up the dash and clean everything up too.
