So,

I live at 8,000 feet. In the past few years, I have been doing road trips as part of a large ongoing photo project, so it is not uncommon to go from sea level to over 12,000 feet in a few weeks time. If I am not on the road trips, I operate from 8-12K on a regular basis in the Summer.

I have an 05 4.0 Tacoma that is resting comfortably at Bighorn Toyota in Glenwood with the TRD blower install about 80% done. It already has a TRD CAI on it. I pick it up in about 12 hours..

So I am considering putting on the new URD 2.85 pulley to get a little more boost, but if it leans it out too much, I really don't want to mess around with H2o / Meth kits on a road trip 4x4.

Also, I have a Lotek Gauge Pod that is now fitted, it has a pair of Autometer gauges, boost and electric oil PSI. The latter is going to be pretty much useless as there is no place for the sender with the S/C pulleys in the way. So I get to kind of eat that one unless I want to run braided line and fix it elsewhere.

So I would like to replace it with a Air / Fuel gauge. Wide-band ones seem to be more useful but are more spendy by a good margin and need a bung weld for the Bosch sensor. So what if any is a good gauge to put in the second hole that was supposed to hold the oil psi?

Other than the S/C and cold air intake, the only other mod is a Flowmaster.

What next? How does the TRD S/C do up in these parts?

Do I need to get the URD MAF calibrator due to highly varied altitude?

Only wideband air/fuel gauges are useful, IMO.

I have a 2.7L, and know nothing specific about the 4.0. Don't change the SC pulley until you've tried the stock one a while. If you change the pulley you will almost certainly invoke the need for a WB A/F, and $700 of aftermarket piggybacks stuff. If it turns out you need all the piggyback stuff anyway (doubtful at our altitude), then search carefully about what you get.

I tried the URD AFR calibrator, and it turned out to only tune beteween 14.7 and 13.5 AFR. Did not seem worth the money to me. I also could not use the timing controller section of the URD AIC w/timing. The Additional Injector Control itself seems to work fine.

If you show 8 psi boost on a regualr boost gauge, then you will be about 5 psi above sea level (MAP gauge), which should be a big improvement.

Thanks Don,

I know a Don Goldberg who maintains all my Leica gear, LOL!

FJCruzer wrote me back last night and spoke pretty highly of the 4.0 w/ TRD S/C so I'll fly with it using the TRD CAI for a bit, maybe until late spring and see how it goes.

The only thing I have to consider is that in traveling all over the country to shoot a big project for the next 2-3 years, I will be at all kinds of altitudes, dew points and ambient air temps. It's going to seriously range from -200 feet in Death Valley to 14,000 feet on Pikes ( well, I still might hike that again out of principal ) and air temps from -30 to over 100F. So with all that, I still think some kind of fuel management with this kind of boost would be wise.

Now....who is the bomber tuner on the Front Range? I'd love to have Gadget do it but I'd have to put him up in the Hotel Jerome and fly him out here, haha!

I would stay away from the URD pulley if you want to maintain the Toyota warranty on your S/C (at least that's why I had Toyota install mine), but that depends on how miles you have. The Installer in the Blue Room is the URD guru in Boulder. IMO URD is great if you don't mind constantly tweaking and mapping it, otherwise it's a PIA.

Gauge pod came out nice too...

It was not a perfect install, but looks good after some handy work.

Anyone know where to put the Bosch 02 sensor for a Innovative wide band A/F gauge on a stock header?

I see the stock one down there, but can't really see where the new one would go....

Don't know on a 3.4. Check the main board?
